We used to have comments under the same Geekzone account.

Disqus gives us a lot more control over spam, as well as bringing the ability to be notified when a new comment is posted. It also allows threaded comments/replies which we didn't have with our in-house solution. In addition people on Disqus can follow other users and see where else on the web they have posted, opening a much bigger opportunity to interact with people you know here on Geekzone that may have other interests (similar or not).

+1  to OP's rant.

Have wanted to reply multiple times to things but point blank refuse to use Disqus

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. If you use my Quic signup you can also use the code R570394EKGIZ8 for free setup. Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Disqus sucks, requires excessive permissions if you login via Facebook or Twitter imo.

You can sign up to Disqus using your email, no Facebook or Twitter required. That's why I don't use Facebook or Twitter for any login, including Disqus. Same email as other services, different password.

My work blocks Disqus, so I can't comment on anything that uses it unless I am at home
