Post the events of last Friday, there are a lot of old threads on this site that (to be very kind) haven't aged well. IMO these should be deleted, and this is a polite request for the mods to please consider doing so.

Not hard to find, just start with https://www.google.com/search?q="sharia+law"+site%3Ageekzone.co.nz

I suggest the mods apply the following test,

"Would I be happy to explain to a member of the NZ Islamic community, that I mod a site that publishes these sentiments?"

Not pointing fingers about historical moderation standards. We all wish we could go back to the NZ we thought we lived in last week.

There are no "historical moderations standards". The topics were discussed within the FUG and anyone expressing any extremist or objectionable view would have been warned or banned and post removed or edited.

I think you are looking for ghosts where those don't exist.

Let's see, from your examples:

Reply 1777814: it quotes a law change in Iran. It's not a post about adoption of that in New Zealand or anything like that.

Reply 2149956: links to articles explaining the law - including one by an academic (Professor of Islamic Studies and former Chairperson, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, Indiana University)

Reply 2067302: uses sarcasm to make a joke of racist speakers

Do you mean you'd be happy with curtailing all discussions simply for mentioning the name "Sharia Law" when those examples aren't in any way opposing the discussion, or their belief?

If that's the case, I think you are the one overreacting and not reading the context.

Not disputing that you've rightly banned people in the past including @heylinb4nz. However stuff like this is still up.

heylinb4nz:

Is it fair to say though that Islam is more dangerous because it is not just a religion but also an ideology \ system of governance ?

Not to mention the fact the book they study "The Quran"

a) calls for the killing of un believers
b) allows for the beating \ lashing \ killing of woman
c) openly refers to non believers, jews and christian as vile sub humans who are to be killed
d) calls followers to migrate, procreate and decieve host nations until majority is held and Sharia can be implemented

Dont even get me started on the undercover videos at Londons most prominent mosque that teaches students the above along with even harsher Saudi interpretations.

Yes, and then people go on to refute, rebuke it.

The alt-right loves a platform for debate. If you want to provide that platform, so be it.

You don't get it, do you? We don't provide a platform for debate. If anyone comes here defending those kind of ideas they won't last long. I think you need to cool down a bit.

Anyone who enjoys democracy should love a platform for debate.  One of my favourite quotes:  "If you don't believe in free speech for people whose views you despise, you don't believe in free speech at all."  How do we learn and progress as a society if we don't discuss the merits and problems of ideas and opinions, both old and new?

This:  https://www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/opinion/105709367/quick-and-dirty-label-to-shut-down-debate

Having said that, not every platform should be required to play host to every viewpoint.
