Hi folks

We are testing something new at the moment.

You might see a prompt asking if you'd like to contribute to Geekzone. You are not required to do it and this can be either a one-time or recurring contribution.

This is not the same as the Geekzone subscription, it's more like a donation.

Feedback welcome here.

The dialog on my mobile Pixel 5a was 10% of screen and tiny.

I am making a small change so this won't appear to existing subscribers.

That prompt was unobtrusive and actually went away in one click attempt unlike pop-ups elsewhere.

I hope it generates some cash flow for the site.

There's a reason we're testing it.

I would imagine there aren't many fans of pop ups.

What actually is the difference between this and a subscription ? Is the differnce significant enough to warrant having the availability of a subscription and a monthly donation ?

Some people don't use PayPal so I am giving an option for those. Also it can be a one-off thing. I am going to try as button later.

I saw it and wondered what it was. Because it said Google I dismissed it but it did remind me to make another donation, which I will do soon.

I know there is the Google logo but was the message not clear or you didn't read?

Thanks kindly for the info. I'm sure its just me, but with pop ups generally the first thing I look for is that little X in the corner...

Fair enough. I am looking at alternative ways. Too many ad blocking these days, too little subscriptions.

For the information and camaraderie this site brings to so many, I think even a coffee money donation from lurkers and lifetime subscribers now and then would be nice to drop in to help keep the site going strong.

I can only imagine the hours and money spent working on all aspects of GZ that we all take for granted.

The donation button on top that has been removed was a useful reminder. Maybe make it light hearted like a steaming cup of coffee with $$ signs or a hat upturned with $$ popping out.

Donations was fine also. Right now anyone reading this that wanted to donate wouldn’t know how.

Ah well, come the revolution, everything will be freely available to all without let or hindrance...if you don't mind the 10 year queue for it.

I did read but I think I just reacted to the Google logo.

Did there not used to be a donate button somewhere? I can't seem to find it.
