Where is the option/setting that I need to change/edit that will allow me to view the most recent posted comment in a thread?

At the moment, I always get to start at the original posting. This is very annoying, especially if there is more than one page in the tread Frown

Is there a display option to show/label the number of posts in a thread?

Everywhere there's a link to a forum discussion there'll be a sequence corresponding to the page numbers. You can just click one of the numbers and go directly to the page number you want...

Sorry, but that aint good enough.

As with most other Forums I visit, I want to be able to skip all the previous posts/comments that I have already read in a thread, and go straight to the latest contribution/s.

Can this not be done here?

Unless it's easy to extrapolate the page number for a given post id, then it's quite hard to do.

If it is actually easy to find the page number, the 'new posts' flag on a topic (or the topic link in the 'new posts' page) could link to something like:

...forums.asp?ForumId=4&TopicId=34132&PostId=<lastreadpost>

which works out the post id of the next post in that topic, then the page number of that next post, and does a 302 redirect to:

..../forums.asp?ForumId=4&TopicId=34132&page_no=<pageno>#<nextpostid>

Problem solved.... But, only if it's easy to work out which page that post occurs on. Many moons ago I wrote this very extension to a bit of custom forum code on a now-defunct site.

(I also re-wrote the bbcode parser which was as buggy as hell, but that's another story)

edit: damn html parser killed my </>'s :P

yeah, it would be nice to have this feature on here, I use it heavily in the vBulletin and PhpBB forums I visit

Watch that particular topic and you will get an email with a link to the most recent comment. Easy.
