the facebook icon looks great, but the geekzone one is seriously pixelated. do you need a 'high definition' favicon image to get a nice looking one, or do you just need to upgrade the quality of the existing one?

BlakJak: The Favicon - "Favourites Icon" - is _supposed to be_ 16x16 pixels.

A seperate icon is another thing alltogether.
Additionally, such icon files can be either 16×16 or 32×32 pixels in size, and either 8-bit, 24-bit, or 32-bit in color depth[10] (note that GIF files have a limited, 256 color palette entries).
Most web browsers have since added support for the new W3C HTML recommendation.[11]

Ragnor: However you still need to consider keeping the size of the favicon down to a reasonable level as it's a heavily requested resource.

So why not only serve the newer favicon to IE 9, as it is my understanding that is the only one that actually needs it?
