Wouldnt we both love to be mods :D
people know its happening ... someone should sort it out soon
But really I still suggest closing registrations over school holidays (a policy many sites have) of course having a way genuine users can contact the site for an account eg #geekzone on DAL.NET
Solves a great deal of problems on many sites, like this problem

All posts from this person have been removed. Counters will be reset soon.

This person created his account from a DSL connection on Orcon, and he's stupid enough to actually post from the same IP as his registration was created. I am contacting Orcon and will arrange something to be done.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

His IP address is now blocked on the server, the username is banned, and I am in contact with someone at Orcon right now.

How did you go? Did you get a good outcome?

And what about our requests for some more mods and mods to have more power?

Cheers Don

I haven't received a reply yet - I wouldn't expect anything before Monday morning, since this person is not a support person, but part of the administrative team.

As for more moderators, well we already have 4 (counting myself), and this is enough, except if someone start posting 561 times in an hour. Not even with a boat load of moderators we could manage that. What I did was simple, from the administrative point of view: remove all posts from this person, and reset the counters. It took only five minutes using a script, and would take forever, if we had to rely only on people's help.

As for more powers, yes we could provide more to moderators, but the thing that really did it was to ban the IP address directly on the server. This is not something a moderator could do because it requires direct access to the server, which is only available to a server administrator (which currently is only myself and a support person in the hosting provider).

may I suggest adding rate-limiting to the forum software?
enforcing no more than 20 posts per 15 minutes would be more than enough for me, this isn't exaclty the somethingawful forums.

This is something I considered before. There's an overhead in database I/O (if creating a new index to point by IP addresses) or memory (if using a table in memory to speed up the process). I am still evaluating the advantages of each method.
