A new PM system is in place. You won't see any difference on the outside, but there was a lot of stuff done behind the scenes.

The new system will allow us to introduce some new features in the future, but in terms of functionality it's currently similar to the old one.

All messages were migrated, but if you can't find one or another please let me know.

What would be cool is if you could mouse over the persons name in the forums and it would popup a ajax dialogue to let you PM people.  Could be helpful when needing to PM someone as part of a forum thread.

All my incoming and outgoing PMs have duplicated in my Profile Options page. Just a quirk of the changeover according to Mauricio.

So ignore 'em unless you're an AC/OCD personality type and find it impossible to do so.

:-)

I have noticed that while reading an outgoing unread/read message, when clicking archieve, all it does is mark it as read/or does nothing.
Marking a read incoming message as archieved does remove it from your message list.
Also, will you rename the delete marked incoming/outgoing message button? So it matches the archieve button?

I'm still working on something about the outgoing messages. I will let senders delete unread messages only. Until then, the system behaves like before.

Ok, an update - we are working fast here!

The PM system has been redesigned to accommodate a request that I have been receiving from users for quite some time now.

Basically you can now PM someone and it will work like an email system:
  • If the Sender archives the PM before it's been read then the Receiver will never see it in the list
  • If the Sender archives the PM after it's been read then the message will disappear from the Sender's list, but will remain in the Recipient's list.
  • If the Recipient archives a PM then it will disappear from the Recipient's list, but will remain in the Sender's list.
In both cases the message is archived only. This means the message disappears from the list but we will retain it for security and law reasons.

Nice work on the updates, this place continues to get better and better :)

One observation as a fairly light user is the terminology used for the PM system. In several other brands of forum software, there is a distinction between a PM and sending someone an email. The 'PM' will use the forums PM system, which may also email the recipient etc, whereas 'Email' may simple be a mailto type link (usually only admin types will have access to that of course, privacy and all).

Not being all that conversant with the GZ system initially, I was somewhat confused as to where to find the PM functionality, and whether 'Email' was in fact what I was after (really it is one and the same here). Of course, after you've done it the first time it becomes obvious, so not a big deal.

Now this is just one point of view, others may feel differently (I'm even on the fence myself, whether it is really an issue at all haha), but may I suggest that the 'Email' text be changed to 'Private Message'?
