Hi
Has anyone else here with good hearing notice any noise coming from their Linksys router?
I have a WRTP54G and it has a noticeable "Shhhhhhhhhh" sound. I can hear it easily from a couple couple of metres away. Sometimes if I give it a gental tap it goes silent...but often comes back again. Occasionally it its silent for days.
When I have an incoming call the noise changes pitch and I know the phone is about to ring before it actually does.
When I'm on the phone the noise is aways gone.
I didn't think much of it when I first connected it up as the previous Netcomm router I tried had a similar sort of noise, but coming from it's power adapter. It hasn't bother me too much as the sound of my computer going generally hides it. However, I'll be moving house soon and possibly be locating the device in my lounge and running wireless connections. So ideally it would be nice if this sound was not there.
I have a feeling that I take it back to the shop I got it from they'll tell me that it's a normal electronic noise, or claim that they can't hear it (I had a similar noise from a Sky decoder and the technician was really pissed off about changing it was he couldn't hear it!) The particular shop has a charge if you return faulty equipment that isn't, to their testing, faulty.
Another problem I've had with the router (or perhaps VFX?) is that on random occasions I find that incoming calls go one way (people can hear me but I can't hear them). Or I pick up the phone, there is dial tone, I get a short ring tone then silence. I quickly figured out that this can be fixed by unplugging the power and restarting. Sometimes I'm problem free for weeks, other times early in January I've had it happen three times in day. There is no obvious pattern of events. I logged the fault early in January with the help help, not sure if they were able to look into it, everytime it happens is usually when I've had an important call coming in and I need to call them back, so just reset. It's not a big hassle, but I wondered if it might be related the the nosiness of the electronics inside the box and whether I should try and get a replacement before the warranty is up!
Anyone else had similar sounds/problems? Or can recommend a direct contact at Linksys who may be able to say straight off that it sounds like a fault and will be able to organise a replacement?
Thanks
