Hey Everyone,

Had an interesting call from XNET this morning, They seem to be in the process of marketing their Fusion service to their own existing customers who still have a real phone line on which DSL is provided.

For a few reasons I was happy to discuss my possible move to the Fusion service but at the point when I started asking a few performance style questions the marketing spiel started to waver.

The main reason for keeping a POTS line for me so far is the ability to fax internationality. Is there anyone on here who has experience with using XNET/VFX to send faxes internationally. Has it got better than it was 6-12 months ago (ie nearly impossible) ?

As I have never experianced a call from XNET/WXC which was not a technical followup I also find it interesting that XNET/WXC are trying to tap exisiting customers rather than market externally. New trend maybe.

It will be because margin on data services is stuff all, tolls are where the providers make money (which is why so many do the $10 discount etc for having tolls).
As far as I understand, faxing _should_ work internationally using T.38, without T.38 I imagine the experience will be terrible. I've sent a number of faxes internationally to Germany, Switzerland and Australia and they all transmitted fine. I guess if you can, try it across VFX but make sure you're using a SPA2102/3102 - the PAP2T will not support T.38. My experience is only in faxing via a Cisco Call Manager system connected on a SIP trunk, but you should experience the same results using the SPA2102/3102.
If you've got one of these spare or can borrow/try someone else's, then it's only $10 for a month of VFX so for the cost savings it's worth trying it first before going to naked DSL.

Lots of our VFX customers fax internationally including dodgy places like the Pacific Island, works fine!

I was unable to send faxes to the US January this year via VFX. I use an SP2102. Has worked fine otherwise including to UK.
