Were you playing something or did you just come home to find it like that?

Pretty sure i found it like that but cannot rule out one of the kids fiddling with the remote.

I went away on holiday on Tuesday before Telstra sent out the helpful (NOT) email warning us of the impending (no, already applied) update. I therefore crossed my fingers in the hope that everything would be fine when I got home.
I came back from holiday to find the Tbox frozen, a picture stuck from Wednesday sometime and all my recordings since Wednesday failed because it thought it was 'powered off'.

After two reboots (I can confirm the problem with missing T-Box menus etc has not been fixed), I have an error on screen telling me that my TV is incompatible (Warning non -HDCP enable device detected The TV has been downscaled to SD video as the monitor that the T-Box is connected to does not support HDCP...) It's a Sony Bravia KLV-V32A10 which has been fine until now.

The version is now 2.9.27. The picture is worse, the helpful window telling me there will be routine maintenance on Tuesday 16th is virtually unreadable, the menus are no longer as clear as they used to be. I flicked across to the signal coming via my DVD recorder (Pioneer DVR-550H)in case that was better - the picture flickers on and off, so it looks like I can't play via the DVD recorder any more.

I have an HDMI switch in the middle, however whenever I've removed it from the mix in the past, there has been no difference. I've tried removing it, but it means I have to unplug cables manually whenever we want to watch a DVD. Before the last update, I never had any problems via the switch. The last two updates have made the experience painful. Currently, with the T-Box connected directly to the TV, the picture seems fine. I haven't attempted a reboot to see if the menus all work.

So far, I've found if I flick to the DVD recorder when I get the warning re HDCP, then back to the TV, things clear up, though the DVD recorder doesn't seem to want to play HDCP.

Altogether a bit of a failure for me. Pleased to hear things are better for at least some other people. I Also agree it is really odd that Telstra feel the need to keep secret the details of updates and fixes contained in the latest version, after all, it's no secret what isn't working...

I suggest your turn everything off, then turn the TV on by itself, then one of the HDMI sources, wait for picture/sound and then the TBOX. It's very easy for HDMI devices to lose sync - not only the TBOX.

I haven't seen this before: this morning I turned on the T-box and was greeted with "Performing Essential System Check. Please Wait." So I waited and about 5 minutes later it had got to 5%, so I gave up and went to work leaving the kids with nothing to watch (they are very young so mainly watch Disney Junior).

Came back tonight and flicked the TV over to the T-Box and no signal, blue light was on and the box was unresponsive to any button presses. So I power cycled it and the system check is back. It has taken over an hour to get to 19%, so I can't watch anything on the T-Box tonight! Arrgghh!

I don't hold out much hope for the thing doing a successful check anytime soon, it'll probably still be going, or frozen, in the morning.

Anyone else seen this and know exactly what it is doing? It's like watching checkdisk after a reboot in XP!

Read the previous messages. Your guess was correct. It basically *is* a checkdsk.

Perhaps the hard drive in your box is too corrupted for it to fix. The "E.S.C." failed for my mother and she had to get her box replaced. It's possible you might have to also.

From what I have heard, if your T-Box needs to be replaced, TCL won't get any of your recordings of the box, is that right? Has anyone found a way of moving their recordings off the box? I mean accessing the files through USB, LAN, or plugging the internal HD into a dock etc. I am not interested in recording files played from the box using another device, too slow and messy.

The only issues we had prior to the update was pixilation and 1-2 sec stutters..

The pixilation has cleared up but we're still getting stutters.

Also, (not a fault) I use the blue banner to scroll through the programs to see what on the other channels. When I find one I want to read the description on, read the program description I can't return to the blue banner - the guide disappears completely if I try to return back to the banner.... make sense???

Ok so I have the upgrade but for some reason only known to Telstra they have disabled Dolby Digital via HDMI and gone back to optical only.

Guys get it together.

I'm finding pixellation and stuttering is wicked tonight on TV3. Not sure if it's in the transmission, or due to the T-box.

Likely due to weather. The channel is sourced from Freeview terrestrial.

That's interesting, ZM. In fact, it looks like Freeview Terrestrial. I have that on another TV, and am trying to use an internal aerial, which sometimes gives exactly the same effects.

So rather than voiding my warranty by cracking open the box, I tried connecting the box to my lan via the ethernet port and did a port scan. Found a few open ports, but can't telnet or SSH in. That's about my limit network hacking-wise, I am not a hacker, but wonder if any super geeks here know of a way to connect and use file transfer ftp or sftp to get files off the thing?

Thinking of switching to MY Sky and just checking pricing and plans. Just wondering if anyone else here has used both and can give a good comparison? I think the MY Sky interface might be a bit crappy, but I have heard navigating around menus is faster? Also, how much of an issue is rain fade with a satellite dish?

MySky is miles better.

Faster, more reliable, you can use SkyTV app to remotely record programmes, it works 100% how it should. Copes much better with recording two shows concurrently on same channel.

In fact, why the hell did I change to the TBox? :-)
