do be aware, adsl speeds dont always repesent vdsl increases.

crosstalk will play a big part, as will quality of the internal wiring before a filter install.

sounds like DLM.

looking at your speedtest, i suspect you have moved over to 17a.

faster than TimA which is what matters!

sounds like DLM.

looking at your speedtest, i suspect you have moved over to 17a.

faster than TimA which is what matters!

VDSL - 10 points.
WAF - zero points and making life hell.

I don't understand the low WAF score - it's only one RJ45 jackpoint, and to the untrained eye its looks exactly like a phone jackpoint.
A VDSL modem is no uglier than an ADSL modem.
Fibre is another matter - much more conspicuous, and in two places :)

My 'bit' of research into a VDSL install failed to uncover that a cat 6 cable has to be installed from the entry point into the house (garage) and then to a 'location'. For me I wanted it with all my PC equipment (study upstairs). Firstly, I agreed to a hole in the study ceiling. Secondly, I told the installer to drill a hole in a bedroom wardrobe floor (where the alarm box is, which then goes into the roof) in the floor convinced I knew where it would appear downstairs. It did not. I now have a hole in a guest toilet ceiling. Finally and with little choice (unless I abandoned the install in order to get in a sparkie to lay a cat 6 cable) I had to install the jackpoint in the garage. So I am using wireless and 3 single powerline boxes and 2 x 4 port powerline boxes.

In the study I have a D-Link 4 x port powerline box and as at at 9:37pm tonight I am getting: Ping: 8ms, Down: 36.03Mbps and Up: 9.70Mbps.
Previously on ADSL (attached directly to the router, I was getting Ping: 25, Down: 8.2, Up: 1.0

It was all my own fault and UFB (when it comes to my street one day) will be a touchy subject.

Has anyone in an apartment had VDSL installed?

Mine is scheduled for tomorrow after 12pm but i'm starting to wonder what they'll need access to.

I have access to the building's pabx/demarcation/secure wiring cupboard and was wondering if that's where they'll do the connecting or if they'll need to install the splitter in the apartment?

Can anyone shed any light on this. I can't seem to find any conclusive information on what actually needs to be changed/added/fixed on a phone line for VDSL to work. i.e. what does Chorus actually do?

There is no option for running new cabling up from the comms cupb'd to my apartment. Is this going to dampen my VDSL aspirations?

Just got the install done today. I must say, very impressed with the Chorus technician. Friendly, patient and overall nice guy. He was quick with the install.

I'm a bit dissapointed with the speeds im getting though. 10mb down, and 6mb up. I was getting 7D 1U on ADSL. The technician did say these might change after 9 days. However, not sure how much. Have posted by stats today. Any advice would be handy (Sorry, not very technical around understanding VDSL stats). Also, doesn anyone know why IPv6 is showing as disconnected on the modem - I havent changed any settings?

for the upload increase, ild say worthwhile.

disappointing that the vodafone modem doesnt show your attenuation though, cant base any figures of it (and possibly a few other figures - i suspect a firmware upgrade at some point will fix that).

see how DLM goes for you, it would seem you are already on DLM-1

IIRC, your line was pretty borderline however.

If you were getting 7 down before you are probably close to the line length limit.

hairy1: If you were getting 7 down before you are probably close to the line length limit.

7 down would indeed indicate iver a bad line (eg internal wiring bad), or alot of interference, in-which will be by a factor of 10+ on VDSL.
