For years people have been saying do not use an ISP provided email address and then the business people that do it :(

a 3rd party free email provider , like yahoo . Or the original hotmail back in the day
Both were pretty bad, ( both were used by Xtra for their free ISP provided email service)
You do have a good point , its been well known that ISP free emails were often substandard . Theres no excuse to start complaining now.

People have email adress's from long long defunct ISP's (eg paradise, clear) , did nothing to move to another email service & stayed with email adress from dead
ISP's & now start to complain.
So those complaining , look in the mirror 1st.

Theres no reason an ISP couldnt have a reliable email service, ISP's do offer paid email services that are often good.(maybee just OK)
Its the free email a/c they dont seem to care about (not just Voda)

My forwarding is all set up, and before forwarding I was receiving about 50-70 spam emails a day. I've received one spam email since last Saturday once forwarding was activated, so it does not necessarily mean your new account with be bombarded with spam.

Hi, Not sure if it has been mentioned - (19 pages of comments (-; ) but if you want to use Gmail and your email client is Outlook then you may have to change the "Allowing less secure apps to access your account" setting in your Gmail, Accounts settings otherwise it will not connect from Outlook (It fails and kind of makes you think its an incorrect password)

Google may block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safe.

Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include:

The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with version 6 or below
The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release
Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird

How is everybody who's set up forwaring finding it? Any issues?

Helped a 90yo friend in Rakaia set up forwarding.

Gmail setup first and Web tests to and fro.

Forwarding set up last Friday (15th)... Forwarding was available on following Saturday (16th).

Friend wanted to continue with Incredimail and POP... But Incredimail blocked Gmail POP and IMap.

Backed up Incredimail mail and contacts and uninstalled.

Cleaned up Windows 10 (installed from 8.1) over 800 registry errors and general dung out.

Re-installed Incredimail.

GMail POP with Incredimail all operational and forwarding from Vodafone.co.nz to GMail all good.

Happy friend.

In the early days that was all we had. Remember some of us have been emailing since before the advent of ISPs, Hotmail and Gmail. ISPs offering mail wasn't a freebie, it was factored into the price from day one. Other alternatives would've cost the moms & pops of NZ.

For personal email, for the ISPs to offer it as a service was a wonderful alternative to the dialup BBS service some of us used before them. And no Compuserve, AOL, Yahoo! and MSN weren't really great options for the Kiwi public (mind you, not great for anyone really).

On the subject of GMail, has the IMAP folder implementation been 'fixed'? I don't recall the details, but it used to do something very odd. I recall it was something silly, like deleting all copies of messages sent to trash, even if you copied them to other folders.

Also, you can also enable application passwords if you use two-step verification instead of allowing less secure applications. In all cases, the messages are secured by SSL. The only difference is applications having credentials that can be revoked.

Having email from an ISP I pay for is what I call a paid email service. I have been with VF and before that Paradise for a long time and always assumed that having email from a paid source would be better than from a free source.

Not sure what some of you people are on about.

Because VF cannot manage their email services, it is their right to shut it down. However, I believe a couple of months is not long enough for a lot of people.

Sure, but I am using Outlook to automatically go get my emails ... I earlier asked VF if my Forwarded mail will have some sort of header information, e.g. " ... on behalf of ...".

So, will the To: line still have my Clear address, or will it be the new one?

OK, so I sent an email to my Clear email address (using the wife's account), then quickly closed Outlook .... used browser to access my new email account and no email waiting! Opened Outlook, and in it came with my Clear address still showing as being the origin

Ergo, Forwarding requested a week ago ain't working!

Like many here, I have been assisting a number of Vodafone customers in the 'older age group', and I'm not prepared to guarantee that they will still get their emails Forwarded to new accounts.

Dear Mike, can you shed some positive light on the matter please?

Seems to be wide spread issue with forwarding not working correctly.

What is being done to identify and correct accounts where forwarding is not operating?

For those forwarding to gmail I'd highly recommend using an alias (+) because at least you can then filter it further and know the source.

My spam folder has over 50 messages in the last few days after setting up forwarding.
