Glad I didn’t buy a Sony. I stopped buying Sony’s when they did a firmware update which disabled stuff on the PS3 which I was using.

DLNA is still working on my LG and I’d be very annoyed if they took it away with a firmware update.

I think DLNA is a very poor experience.

Said goodbye to my VTV today - sent away to a Geekzoner who will enjoy it until it dies now.

I'm worried that I have distracted this thread down a barely relevant rabbit-hole.

I love DLNA when it works. Serviio works pretty much all the time, Panasonic AllPlay devices, not so much.
I'm interested in your views, @freitasm, of alternatives and whether it matters if the old devices become ewaste, but I don't think this is the right forum for that discussion!

Hanging in there hopping the Sky new set-top box will replicate the VTV functionality come September. However looking at the Sky promo I think I have been working under the delusion that I will not require

an aerial? Anyone know if it is planned to will work on just internet ie fibre or Vodafone cable?

The info from Sky suggests they will sell the device. Now I see no purpose to actually purchase it, unless it includes a NON subscription Freeview service of some type.

Fingers crossed

Personally, I don't want an aerial or a dish on my house. And I don't want to two remotes (one for Sky and one for everything else from my Smart TV).

Happy to completely connected to the internet and gives me Sky packages plus the other stuff using only one remote.

I’m 99% sure the new Sky box will require a Sky Subscription.

The benefit to someone of buying the box will be to avoid a monthly box fee.

I brought the MySky box for $600, and by doing so have avoided the $15 a month recording fee.

I had the MySky box for well over 3 years and 4 months, so it’s paid itself off well and truely vs paying $15 a month.

I hope they do the same with option of lump sum payment vs monthly payment with new Sky Box’s.

I pay Sky direct, guessing I’ll get nothing for the Vodafone TV box as will be over two years, but a trade discount for new Sky box may interest me. As I pay Sky direct though Vodafone will not know I have an active subscription.

I do have an idea of the Specs, It should be a lot better then Vodafone TV.

I’ve also told Sky I’m interested in trialing the box, so won’t say anything more, as don’t want to destroy my chances there.

Ditto. If I need an aerial from September to get Sky channels that is the end of my Sky subscriptions (currently obtained via VF cable).

I maybe wrong but my understanding that the new box will give to option of a dish connection or broadband depending on individual requirements. I also believe there is an App option in the pipeline as an alternative to the box.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

How is everyone else's VTV going tonight? I went to use mine again after about a month trying other options to prepare for Sept and it would not connect. After checking the modem and resets etc, I found I could connect via my mobile phone hotspot and then switch back to ethernet. TV kept going fine for about 30-60min then would just dies and would show now internet.

PCs are all fine with no internet drops. The only change I can think of was a firmware update on my Synology router.

I am on Slingshot. I wonder if they are starting to "prevent" connections.

The VTV was plugged in and powered on. but not accessed for the last month, so unsure when the issues started.

Strange how the device seems to not want to connect via my router/Slingshot internet, but fine via Voda Hotspot. And after a switch to ethernet keeps going fine for an hour or so. Almost as if there is a heartbeat running.

I think one of my boxes has failed as it now can't find any WiFi networks. If I returned to the retailer under cga would they repair or replace it?

My sister has been contacted by Sky, the plan is to keep the VTV box going but Sky are going to do the billing for it. Once the new generation sky box is out she will be swapped over.

Makes sense doing it this way where they don’t need to procure a heap of satellite boxes where they will only be useful for a few months

Still having issues with mine just as Supercars season is about to start.

I can connect via mobile phone hotspot. Switch to ethernet then about an hour later it dies.

Cannot connect directly by ethernet - so looks like a heartbeat is in operation to try and keep users on Vodafone networks.

update - looks like it was an issue with the Synology router. Just checked and there was a new SRM update. Issue fixed - NTP failing over PPPoE. To failure to get an accurate time appears to stop the box working. To others having issue - this is certainly something to check. I thought the connection was causing the VTV to show the wrong time - not the otherway around.

Cross fingers box still is working tonight.
