Cybergangster: My peak speeds have been garbage. This has been going on since June! Customer Support have been no help. They insist on making their follow-up calls and speed tests during non-peak times. Frankly, I'm appalled at myself for tolerating this kind of half-baked service for so long. I pay for a 130Mb/s connection and I'm getting less than 3% during peak times, which is the only time I want to use the connection.

This wasn't always the case - I had fantastic performance before June...

Might have seen my post earlier. If not ill post below.
Please make sure this isnt tested over WiFi..

"Vodafone Cable broadband customers in specific areas are currently experiencing congestion and a reduction of their maximum speed at peak times. We have identified the cause of congestion and have scheduled upgrades to the affected areas throughout August within the next three weeks. There is no mitigation action we can put in place in the meantime as this requires a build at the exchange. Once the upgrades have occurred the customer should no longer be affected by these speed issues."

Whether this is one of them i couldnt comment. Best to PM me or NikT and we can look into.

Cheers

stocksp: Well, yes best efforts. But when speed is 4mbs and what they advertise ( and you pay for ) is 130 - that's quite a difference. Using your logic, everyone could advertise 1tb speeds, supply 54 kbps, but that's best effort ... :)

*sigh*

I'm not in a habit of defending Vodafone but it does say on their website: "up to 130 Mbps download, 10 Mbps upload"

Why do people assume they'll be able to get linespeed 24/7 on a residential connection with no SLA or CIR?

Simple....I read what I purchase.

I chose to purchase 130/10 not 77/10. This is why I pay extra to receive 130/10.
I have been receiving 130/10 since it first came out even during peak hours. Now it seems the unlimited plans are as expected causing my plan to be throttled during peak times regularly.

Should I start sleeping during the day and use my computer during the night time so as to receive 130/10?

Seems a simple assumption to me....

Is 8.25am peak time as well???

You chose to purchase up to 130Mbps. You did not purchase a 130Mbps connection.

I dont think everyone expects it to be that 24/7 but drops of between 50-90% of the advertised max speed???  Do you think that is a fair thing to not disclose?

The issue has been disclosed and the ETA for a fix has been put in place. Vodafone have also said there are no workarounds for the congestion.

I guess it depends on what you define as "disclose".  There has been no offers of compensation to affected users, one would have to run the gauntlet of phone support to try and achieve a refund of any kind.  I dont think the response and level of customer service has been sufficient, yours and others opinions may differ.

They are saying the congestion issue affects one node.....yet it is seeming to affect a lot more.

Kapiti here.

and upto.....should mean it is higher than the plans underneath ...

It affects a core piece of network not one Node. Someone said one node before :)

OK, I was distracted by someone mentioning a single node being effected elsewhere in this thread.

I'm using a wired connection to test at home. Last night's tests were run while directly attached to the Cisco router.

As of 5 minutes ago, the speed is fine. But I expect this to change by the time I get home.
