johnr:
nutbugs: Yep - I have noticed issues in Kapiti around those times.

Have you logged an official fault ticket with Vodafone for peak time congestion?

Not yet johnr - I just go and do something else :)
As was pointed out earlier - I figured it would be a "that's life" type response - but seeing others are having issues I shall double check speeds to ensure I am not dreaming and look to log a fault.

I am on the 50/2 cable plan - which it usually chugs away fine all day. I work from home so know when it's not.
Now is a different story however!

Guess I should try logging a fault.

I believe we have had a significant fault in kapiti for a while that went unnoticed.

Whenever I feel things aren't quite right I just run a VF speedtest.

Maybe JohnR can inform us why VF can't pick up these issues with their nodes themselves?

I would discount ALL tests on Vodafone to Wellington. There's no peering here, so it's affected by distance.

Have you guys instead done a test using http://customerzone.vodafone.co.nz/customer-zone/speedtest/ yet?

For example my 130 Mbps connection that for years was at max speed (100 Mbps then 130 Mbps) is currently going at 80 Mbps.

Since this is to Vodafone servers it's more likely to give a real idea of your speeds.

mattbush: On cable 100/10 I have been noticing over the last week or so a significant drop in bandwidth during the hours on approx 5ish to 11ish pm.

The above result seems usual for evening which I am not happy about.

Is this the result of all the expenditure on cable JohnR talks about?

If I could get broadband that was higher than 13Mbps down and 1Mbps up I'd be stoked!

Isn't cable a shared bandwidth technology though, or is today's cable putting end users modem's on seperate spectrum from the rest?

Nope an investigation will take time and resolution will not be straight away, Only one fault ticket logged as of yesterday early afternoon (yours)

Thanks

Its way too difficult to log faults....its sad.

At least if they don't fix it soon I should be able to break my contract and go vdsl.
