On cable 100/10 I have been noticing over the last week or so a significant drop in bandwidth during the hours on approx 5ish to 11ish pm.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 53263 kbps (6657.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 9797 kbps (1224.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
1/18/2015, 6:14:46 PM

The above result seems usual for evening which I am not happy about.

Is this the result of all the expenditure on cable JohnR talks about?

That "expenditure" (from memory) was spent on improving your service, not making it worse.

This has been going for a while. I am on the 130 Mbps plan and used to get just about that on Vodafone's own speedtest page to Wellington.

For the last few weeks lucky if getting more than 90 Mbps. Last week I was actually trying to stream something from LAX and was getting 200Kbps on my 130 Mbps line.

I dropped from the 130 plan after 2 months of getting 97ish. They did give me some credits etc..but sadly they can't keep even to 100 now during a large part of the day.

It all seems to stem from the introduction of their new "all you eat" plans.

I would sooner have capped and they can keep up with the congestion!!!!

Vodafone can get away with it basically because consumer plans are on a "best effort" basis and any congestion talk are "rumours" only (because Vodafone is not going to confirm it).

If you call customer services they will just tell you that it is what it is, they don't guarantee anything - even though they don't seem to give those speeds not even to their own test servers now.

JohnR said Vodafone will be offering 200Mbps eventually, I don't know how they will do that when they can't even offer 100Mbps.

It's not fraud. It's "best effort" - no speed is guaranteed. Remember?
I would however log a fault with them as a starting point.

I would assume, however, there is some sort of threshold that one would have to go under at which point a service is unacceptable. Given that the OP is still getting a pretty good speed during peak time so Vodafone is providing a reasonable level of service. End of the day, if getting peak performance is important (and I'm sure there are scenarios where it is) then there is a price tag associated with it and the OP either has to put up with consumer grade broadband or pay the extra for all the perks of commercial grade broadband.

A "pretty good speed" is all very relative, and when comparing to the advertised price a 50% reduction is arguably too large a drop to be acceptable.  At the moment this area of IT is turning into the wild west.  As long as at some point (3am for example) the speed goes at 95%-100% of the advertised speed then its a valid claim.

I feel sorry for those ISP's that do a good job, with proper networks and are then forced to drop their level of service to compete with those who claim the same capabilities but offer less.  There needs to be a set of guidelines or law change from a commerce commission driven investigation to cleanup this industry.

That's really bad. You could always drop down to the 50/2 plan unless you need the upload.

Latest test on VF Cable 100/10

Last Result:
Download Speed: 6697 kbps (837.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 9774 kbps (1221.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

At least I am recording the speeds for VF...not overly confident of any resolution. Doing it to their specs ie no router etc.

Speeds are fine during the day and generally meet the 100/10.

If anyone has suggestions it would be appreciated..I am at the end of my tether over this!!!
