Just want to check few more things, especially setting Huawei HG659 into bridge mode to use my current existing wireless-router setup.

For the past few months I've had pretty solid performance on the 100/10 plan when downloading from Usenet. Now I'm on the 1000/100 plan and my speeds seem to be consistently lower than they used to be - getting 50-70Mbps right now. Speedtests have been giving me 500-900Mbps, but I'm not seeing that performance in real use. That said, I've only briefly played with it at a couple of different times so I'm not making any hard judgements yet.

I found something in one of the menus that looked like a remote access setting that was turned on and configured to an unknown domain - guessing this is for technical support, but there's no way I'd want this. To add to this mine has needed to be rebooted daily since install.
Speeds dropping and connection issues.
Port forwarding is a nightmare on the HG659. You need to create a service then attach it to a mac address not an ip.
I just can't not trust it to be a reliable box. I have security cameras /teamspeak / VNC connections that I use remotely. It's a problem when I need to drive across town to reboot the router to access my server.
The HG659 is built to a price for home use.

I went into the FibreX adventure knowing that my 15 yr old PC running pfSense was not going to cut it.
OK - other people use a consumer-grade router, perhaps I can too. Looked at the web interface, and had doubts.
Left DHCP and DNS running on pfSense, while using the gigabit ports on the HG659 to do the routing. That was all on Tuesday.
From the start DNS had an issue - needed to refresh web pages before they got a DNS reply. Cloud printer didn't cope at all.
Wednesday evening, the HG659 stopped forwarding packets. Reboot started it again.

I ordered a low-end high-quality router.
Friday the RB-750gr3 turned up.
With that doing routing, the DNS issue disappeared, and no need to reboot it in anger so far! (I've been using Mikrotik gear for various short-term projects for a few years, and can't ever remember one hanging without cause.)
Last night I imported my DNS and DHCP settings from pfSense into the elegant CLI of the Mikrotik. Today it does the whole job!

What's the performance like? Can you hit the same speeds you were using the Vodafone provided router?

I don't have a computer at home that can approach 200Mbs (long story), but brought home my work laptop yesterday. Didn't try this machine on the HG659, but the Mikrotik delivered 199.94 / 18.84 to it.

Should add that I've yet to get DHCP reservations to work correctly :-(

I'm getting pretty crappy (400-500Mbs) speedtest results to the wgtn vf speedtest server, if you've got wget/mtr can you report your results:

So just completed my fibreX upgrade 1 day wait

Installation went smooth until connecting to the internet which it failed spectactuly, i purchased additional static IP but the Static IP's are shot, so unfortunatly im stuck on a dyncamic until the esculated fault is fixed and i can enjoy my static ip

here is the result from my speedtest

Two of my friends have upgrading to FibreX and they are getting the upgrade for only $59.99 per month. Is this true for everybody who are pre-exising customers. I'm feeling stupid now for moving over to BigPipe UFB.

The longer I have this FibreX, the less impressed I am becoming with it.

Tonight getting 350-400Mbps. Rebooted both modem and router.

I think it's getting worse by the day. Added to the real world impression that nothing has changed other than some better SpeedTest results. Glad I'm not paying mega dollars for it.

Edit:

Picked the VF server rather than whatever random other Wgtn server it had picked itself, up to 522Mbps. Better but not amazing.

FibreX has been amazing here. I just downloaded all the videos from Digital Foundry's new digitalfoundry.net (a bit over 36 GB), and it chugged along consistently at near line speed.

I'm at the point where a mechanical hard drive is occasionally bottlenecking my Internet... .-.

So i had the issue with the broadcom chipset routers where it bottlenecked at around 400Mbit.

Flashed my Netgear R8000 with tomato (standard, no advanced port for the R8000), enabled CTF and now consistently getting 800Mbit+

well im sad to say my connection was short lived, since the install at around 2pm this afternoon i have had to physically reboot the technicolor TC4400VDF cable modem at least 7 times so far, it looses conectivity to vodafone, who seem to be switching me between nodes.

But what seems odd is the HG659 says it has a connection to vodafone but yet there is no connection at all, the technician had this issue while he was installing it which was said its todo with the static ip blocks not working properly atm on vodafones end

Not to mention massive packet loss, maybe i should have stayed with docsis 3.0 gah, hopefully they sort this out soon and get me onto my static ip address.

I appear to be having this exact issue as well. My RDP session to my server at home dropped about 3 - 4 times today and each time I had to teamview in to check what the IP address was as it changed every time the connection dropped. Until this afternoon where I appeared to have lost all connectivity until I got home and rebooted the TC4400 and its been ok since.

I also have a ticket open for the static IP address allocation and I did get a message saying they were looking into it as a whole as it wasn't working or something.

Otherwise, speeds have been over 900 most of the evening.
