mattbush: Still

Last Result:
Download Speed: 94805 kbps (11850.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 9790 kbps (1223.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
8/29/2014 1:19:41 PM

Haven't been above 100 in kapiti now for a long time.

Thats a good result. Is it negotiating 100Mb/s on your NIC or on the router?

Considering up until a month ago it was constantly around the 130 mark...I dont consider under 100 a good result.

I consider it a "best effort" service, and you're getting what you're paying for. No speed is guaranteed.

Also there are a lot of people on here who would give anything for the speed you're getting right now.

If you don't believe you're getting good value you can always downgrade to the next lowest speed, 50/2 and save yourself the $30.  You then would max out your speed plan.

How much of the speed is actually under the ISP control as opposed to the network owner?

Past the Chorus hand over point till their edge routers.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

As this is a cable connection it's 100% on the Vodafone network.

The WiFi or Chorus network.
Lasst time i checked the Chorus network will congest before the Vodafone network.

Except before all but one part of the cable network tongue-out

In all seriousness based on experience from customers slow speeds are typically from the dslam to end user (Bad street copper, Internal wiring, Crappy home network / wifi) or international bandwidth providers. Both which are outside of the ISPs control within reason.

Check this performance. Good example of Chorus network letting my down. (Vodafone checked their end and no congestion)
@Hio77, Yes it happened to you. Its happening to me. All those Mb/s your Mt Albert link stole off my Takapuna to Whenuapai.

I'm merely pointing out they don't get anywhere near what you get (Tim in Outram, for example). You seem to think it's a "guaranteed" speed - but (as sbiddle points out) it's anything up to 130 MB/s. If you want a guaranteed 130 MB/s, you need to pay a premium for such a service.
Does it really matter that much if you're getting 90MB/s as opposed to 130MB/s?
