I have looked at this confusingly long list of VF plans - why on earth do they need so many? - and am relieved to find that my VF cable plan is not listed there.
I have not yet received any email or snail mail from VF about a price increase.

I'm stuck with VF cable - fibre is not due here until 2020, and VDSL and ADSL are both slow (I've tried both - with master filter etc).

I am stuck with Vodafone cable because there is no fibre yet and no plans for VDSL installation even in parts of Johnsonville - exactly because there's a cable network that covers almost the entire suburb.

So, increasing prices on a monopoly, which is not even managed by Chorus, is a bit of a dodgy move.

Yes, yes. It's only $48/yr. Multiply this for a quarter of a million customers and someone's laughing on the way to the bank, telling a tale of how the Chorus pricing influence everyone's broadband price - even on those parts of the network 100% owned by them.

$12m in fact which for a business like VF is not a huge amount and they are a business after all and their main goal is to make a profit.

I'm not jumping with joy at having to pay extra but I am realistic

I am not stuck cos I already have UFB, so depending on what my bill says when I get it in the next week or so, I will either have no increase and keep Cable or have one and wish it goodbye. It is kind of sad after 15 years but there it is.

Even if you could get VDSL, You don't get 100 or 130 down like you have

No, but then not tied to a single provider even with slower services.

We do have a backup Snap connection at home, but it's 11Mbps only, the fastest we can get without cable.

Could the title of this thread be changed to "Most Vodafone packages are increasing in price". From what I can see pretty much all the Vodafone products are going up, not just the cable pricing. I haven't received a letter yet but I see my plan is on there.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I wonder how much their actual wholesale cost (or rather, predicted cost) has gone up by, and then how much this will bring up their revenue (and possibly profit).

We all know that overall their wholesale costs haven't gone up for wholesale, they've gone down. In an area where they're reselling Chorus UBA + agency POTS the IPP pricing post 1st Dec is a reduction from $62.96 to $52.42 (excl tail costs). The FPP draft pricing will put this up, but the key thing is that it will still be less than the price pre 1st Dec.

Spark claimed they factored in the proposed IPP reductions into their pricing and the draft FPP pricing now means they'll lose money. For Vodafone to claim the same on such a large number of legacy plans, many of which predate even the proposed IPP pricing is simply ridiculous.

The price of a MPF for UCLL has gone up for urban and down for rural (as it's now averaged), but that's been known about since separation day in 2011.

freitasm: Remember, as pointed out by Steve's blog, TelstraClear was bigger than Vodafone in numbers, came with its own national fibre network and own cable network in Wellington, Christchurch and Kapiti. So the costs for Vodafone broadband wouldn't chance as much as the others because there's this mix.

Didn't the fiber network come by the way of the merger of TelstraSaturn with Clear Coms who I think bought a lot of it from Trans Rail. The current Vodafone network is made up of a lot of acquisitions and not original content..

I'd say they are pretty close to breaching the Fair Trading Act by blaming the price increase for their cable customers on "changes in the industry". Unless there is some other change to prices other than the Chorus copper fiasco.

Perhaps their call times will go back to something reasonable once they lose a few more customers.

Vodafone are free to put their prices up, as with any seller the price they want is their choice. It should however be the buyers choice if they wish to pay the price, the buyer should be free to say no and move without penalty.
I doubt that VF will limit increases to end of contract or new connections. I feel if these increases cause minimal loss of customers they will increase across the board. They are trying to recoup losses.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Didn't people provide quotes from their emails saying this was only applied once off contract? The plan I'm on isn't changing price so I haven't gotten an email.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.
