Broadband and VOIP for landline. Pay for them separately.  I have the desktop box that replaced the original Vodafone hard drive based recorder.

I hope that Vodafone come to an arrangement with Sky to continue to provide the content through the desktop box until Sky get their own.

I really don't want to have to get a dish ( having removed the one on the house when it appeared that the Vodafone box was providing all the needed content.

OK, thanks for that, so it does look like Vodafone customers have been transferred to Sky billing, but those of us that buy only Sky via Vodafone are still waiting. That gives me some confort that at least I haven't just been missed.

I won't be getting a dish either. I'm renovating at the moment, and the roof will be replaced next year, so a dish is too much hassle. I do really want to keep Sky, but if there isn't a streaming solution they'll lose me as a customer.

We moved into our new-build home two years ago and I deliberately opted for a 'no dish' solution. Having a dish (or going back to having a dish) would be like having an outside toilet, a coal bunker or gas-lighting.

Hopefully, Sky are able to deliver on their new box with same / better functionality than the Vodafone TV box without the need for a dish or an outside toilet!

I bought a Google Chromecast TV yesterday and sideloaded Freeview on it. To do so required reading a number of websites about it.

First enable developer options for the TV. Then download the Download app. Then enable unknown sources for the Download app.   Then download the Freeview app and install it.

Works well as a replacement for VF box, but not being able to timeshift or play back 3 days later is such a reversal to the 1990's. I can't believe that we are losing 21st century functionality. It will be really sad when the VF box finally shuts down, at least we will be watching far less TV.

Yeah - I think Vodafone tried something innovative that worked well for most people, but didn't have a sustainable business case behind it. IMHO this is a direct result of rights owners with their drive for short-term profit imposing restrictions that made the product unattractive to many. Our whānau certainly finds that the 10% of content Vodafone is are allowed to record for us accounts for about 80% of what we want to watch.
If the device had been as seamless as it could have been, then perhaps more people would have purchased it, and a portion of those people would have paid for Sky, making the whole venture sustainable. Perhaps not too - we will never know.

TIVO or a panasonic PVR. But even PVRs are disappearing.

Can I buy the new Sky box and not subscribe to any of their channels?  Will it stream Freeview and other streaming apps via wifi or ethernet?  ie. no uhf antenna or satellite dish.

I don't think anyone apart from Sky people have seen the Sky box yet, and there have been no announcements about functionality or pricing that I am aware of.

Ages ago Sky revealed that the new box can be used as an internet streamer and/or Sky content can be received with Sky’s satellite gear.

I just received an email from Sky telling me my VodafoneTV will remain active until 31 October. I'm pretty sure it was previously end of September.

I just got this email from Sky saying it will survive an extra month and they'll say more in a few weeks:

We want to let you know that we’ve been working closely with the team at Vodafone and are pleased to advise that VodafoneTV will remain active for you until 31 October 2022 after which, services will begin to shut down. We’re working hard to give you the best range of options to continue enjoying Sky and ensure a seamless transition. We’re looking forward to sharing more details in a couple of weeks. If you have broadband services with Vodafone, they will be in contact with you directly about changing to a current broadband plan.

Thanks,

The Sky Crew
