Remember we are all still going through the same international/undersea pipe and we know ISP's throttle that to keep within their budget allowance. Perhaps we will see some improvements when the new undersea cables come online.

Problem is the old 50/100Mbps 'Vodafone' cable would very consistently perform at max speed.
Yes the new plans are faster but they also go a different way and through a different part of 'Vodafone'.
Which then raises the question of how this part does things which is NOT the same.
I could always get at least 5MB/s downloading this test ISO file on my old 50Mbps connection.
Now it never goes over 2.5MB/s. It's a stable transfer too, no fluctuations which would indicate congestion of load.
Have you asked Vodafone to investigate? Is it as per their traffic management design or is it a fault?
@MikeHales it seems people have been providing some examples. Any chance of some investigation?

hmm so reading all these replies/comments im worried now after just requesting/signing up for FibreX.
Im currently on cable 50/2 and pretty happy with performance. Speedtest.net tests show I get fairly close the 50mb/s and real life performance is also good.
Ive signed up for the 200mb plan and the installer is coming in on Thursday to install. Should I let it still happen, or cancel and stay on my current 50mb connection??
how is it that the FibreX can be worse than the existing 50mb connections?
I'm staying on the 50/2 plan I note with the upgrade to IGIG or 200/20 you lose the five frequently called numbers in my case that is unlimited calling to five different mobiles.

The lack of a 12 month contract is disappointing, and is probably why we won't be resigning. Fibre is nearly here

You infer all ISP's throttle? I know one that doesn't. if all ISP's procured bandwidth to satisfy the customer numbers, there would be no need to consider throttling, aka Traffic Management

For that I'd recommend contacting Vodafone for investigation/repair. There may be an issue with your area or cabling. At 4AM it definitely wouldn't be congestion in the area.
Mine, while not as fast, is stable and real world performance is reliable and consistent (within the previous limitations).
Correct, you would think it is congestion out of the area, ie. international, or the national backbone

Interesting about the times, I noticed when I am speed limited the source IP is one of Vodafone's (sporting an ihug reverse lookup hostname).
I wonder if that changes when there is no limit?
Just tried the ISO again now at 6:40AM and I get 200Mbps.
Interestingly it still comes from the ihug named IP. So there are timed proxy profiling happening which I would bet will be impacting responsiveness of every day web browsing.

Once again, have you rung Vodafone and asked them to investigate?
