I just wish that Freeview had an official app for android TV devices such as the chromecast. I mean official and supported with updates. To have to go through TVNZ and tv3 apps to access live tv isn't acceptable for many. Th fact that VF tv exists shows it is something that freeview is missing. Yes there is one official freeview streaming device, and I have tried this, but had to return it due to reliability. Maybe the newer  models are better, but IMO these sorts of devices shouldn't have reliability issues as they didn't have moving parts.

Is there a discussion area for those of us with zero interest in Sky and use the VTV for Freeview?  Usually when it is raised here you say it is off topic.

What do you mean? The VTV is being retired so you can't use it for Freeview. You will need to find a different solution. So the options are Sky, Chromecast with Google TV, Apple TV and a list of other software/hardware. You can create a new topic for the replacement options but this thread should be for the VTV closure really.

I don't understand? If you just want freeview every TV on the market today has that built in.

Sorry, I assumed it was implied that I was talking about streamed Freeview since that is what the VTV was providing.  I'm not aware of any TV on the market today that streams Freeview out of the box but it would be welcome discussion point it some could point to a Freeview app that will work on Android TVs

sansom: 11.09.22 @eracode, I will investigate.

18.09.22 Hi Hamish. Any progress to report?

@sansom Given that VTV has been now been extended to 30 Nov, it would be good to know whether ‘restart’ on Three will be reinstated for the duration.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I seem to have dropped off the email list and have not received any communication from Sky regarding the switch from VTV. I have received my refund from Vodafone. Anyone else had this issue and managed to resolve it? I don't want to miss out on any offers. Cheers

I signed into my Sky account and it looks like the offer is 10% off your Sky subscription for 12 months if you buy a new box.

Struggling to keep up with this thread! I’d got the VTV unit as part of a Vodafone bundle (no Sky) so waving the service goodbye as it gets tossed into the bin.
He’s there been any further work into re-flashing it with basic Android? It grates to discard a perfectly good piece of H/W still. Links anyone? If some links are not appropriate for this thread, happy to get them via PM.

I understand you can still use the Bluetooth remote on other android boxes to a limited extent.

Yeah I think some people who got a stb with "freeview" via vodatv as part of their internet package would like to know if they will also be getting an offer for the Skypod device? despite them not having the additional SKY sub?

I have Sky via satellite, plus the Vodatv "freeview" as part of my Internet package. I'm about to cancel SKY completely but would love to retain the pause and epg rewind functionality that the Vodatv offered.

Can we get the Sky POD , have our Freeview on it WITHOUT paying Sky a subscription is the big question?
