Quickymart, I just dont understand your rational.  It is not sold as "Theoretically capable of going up to 130/10 Mbps", people quite rightly expect to get what they pay for, under-promise and over deliver.  If they cant provide the speed to achieve what they advertise why do they not proportionally reduce the premium price we pay of having the faster speed?

Actually it is sold as that - see the "Things to know":

Stated speeds are based on theoretical maximums. Your actual broadband speed will vary depending on a number of factors including NZ and overseas networks, your modem and computer technology including wifi capability, internal home wiring, other environmental factors, and how many other people are using it at the time. Uploads and downloads count towards your monthly allowance.


The technology can achieve the speed and probably does in a lot of cases - just not currently for certain nodes by the sounds due to congestion issues or something similar.

quickymart: I'm merely pointing out they don't get anywhere near what you get (Tim in Outram, for example). You seem to think it's a "guaranteed" speed - but (as sbiddle points out) it's anything up to 130 MB/s. If you want a guaranteed 130 MB/s, you need to pay a premium for such a service.
Does it really matter that much if you're getting 90MB/s as opposed to 130MB/s?


A few months ago VF increased the speed from 100 to 130.

If a speed in the 90's is acceptable then VF has breached fair trading.

Based on the information provided on the website (my previous post) then I don't think VF could be seen to breaching the fair trading act. If they'd hidden the information away or not disclosed it then that'd be a different story...

The speed they are getting at 94Mb/s is close to the maximum throughput for a 100Mb/s connection. I bet something is negotiating at 100Mb/s somewhere..
No, Vodafone isnt breachign any act. They never provided a guaranteed speed. They went quite far in explaining what affects speed etc.

See above - no speed is guaranteed, and (even if it is being caused by congestion) they're not exactly sitting back doing nothing about it, are they?

You're getting well above the next tier down which is 50/2 so even if there are network issues causing this you're still getting the faster speeds you're paying for.

Have you rung the call center and logged a fault with the technical team?

Provide an example of contest distribution service that will supply at that speed apart from speedtest.net....
