Island Bay, FibreX 200, node WKH3

Yet another outage from 8:35 to 9:10pm tonight.

My eleventh outage this month, four of them in the last 5 days, all lasting 30 mins or longer.

This one was unusual in that I had abnormally slow UPSTREAM speeds (less than 1Mbps) just before the outage.

VF notified (again).

How much time do you have left on your contract with VF?

Good question undecided

18 months.

No fibre option until late 2019.

I tried VDSL in 2015 with disappointing results.

I really really wish I found this forum before I "upgraded" from lightspeed (50/2) to FibreX 200.

According to Vodafone Tech, Me and my In Laws are on WKH *unsure of the number* as well.

Expriencing all of the same outages as others on WKH3.

The VF tech noticed an outage on WKH while on the phone to them - but it came right (and my internet returned) while they had put me on hold.

They also said that the WKH node was due to have some work done to it to make it more resilient but no timeframe was given.

Awaiting static IP and then I'll see if I can get myself added to Smokeping...

Welcome to Geekzone  smile

We have had outages on 03, 05, 08, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 24, 25 & 27 March.

The WKH node hardware has already been upgraded, but software upgrades are supposed to be due "soon".

Thanks!

My In-Laws had Fibre X before us and always mentioned that their connection was down (They're 3 houses down from us)

I thouht - I'm sure it's not THAT bad.

Pretty sure I was wrong!

The VF techs always seem surprised that the connection is down, but I'm sure someone else has called it in as well as me.

I kind of wish it was possible to have them test multiple connections when I call them just to show it's a more widespread problem - but I think they need the VF customer number for that to happen.

Anyone considered going back to one of their old plans?  Though I think only the 50/2 is available.

When it works, it's pretty good (latency seems a bit high - esp to 8.8.8.8).

Hmmm.  Soon.  A bit like eventually.

@sideface would it not be worth trying VDSL again with a no contract provider given the change to 998?

have you tried a different "modem" to rule that out as the problem?

surely vodafone cant just be sitting on their ass about this (again) you have clearly documented there is an issue surely they should be able to fix it

Three more outages this morning:

9:10 - 9:20am (self-correcting)

10:25 - 10:30am (self-correcting)

11:23am - 12:10pm (the node was rebooted after I called VF)

EDIT  I have tried 3 different routers this week - Huawei HG659, ER Lite, ER-X - makes no difference to reliability.

Is the Technicolor modem the only cable modem VF provides for FibreX?

No Cisco / Motorolla variant?  (Not sure if they have DOCSYS 3.1 modems of course).

Yes - and TTBOMK it's the only DOCSIS 3.1 modem available in NZ.

The Technicolour modem is gets very hot and I have told them that, they even said it is not meant to but sent out a router replacement not a modem replacement.

strap a 120mm fan to it, mine was getting VERY hot vertically and now seems a wee bit more stable.

I get that and friend did that, but I dont want to go out and spend money on a fan to cool their modem down.

We have now had outages on 03, 05, 08, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 24, 25, 27 & 28 March (lasting from 30 mins to 6 hours).

Two other family members living in Island Bay also experienced these outages - same times & dates.

A VF tech came to our house today to check our coax connection (where it connects to the modem). Perfect score - 10/10.

The tech is convinced that there is a significant local network problem, rather than a poor coax. connection.
