If you want to use your credit card and don't want the fee - just set up a variable credit card agreement and then whatever your bill is, is paid from your credit card, on time and no fee.

Mike charging a fee for using a CC is fine but its the debit card picking up the fee that I am not happy with.

Same goes for debit card, set up an automatic payment like a DD, and no fee. Do it through My Vodafone and you don't even need to sign and send anything.

You didn't really answer the question.....why should there be a fee on a debit card??

Also, what I don't understand..if you charge fees for credit cards and debit cards shouldn't you offer a discount for email billing considering there is no postage, envelopes, printing or handling involved?

I guess its all just another way to silently increase pricing!

Just set this up, was pretty easy, thanks,

still charged a surcharge on the $1 check amount though (should get that back).

As far as I am aware debit cards (as in Visa Debit Cards) go through the same interchange as credit cards as they are processed effectively as credit card transactions but money taken from a standard account.

Whats the difference between a variable credit card agreement debit your card automatically once a month and manually paying it through a website? Why is one charged and the other isn't?

Banks do not charge extra for paying by a debit card. Here is an article I found which supports this and also charging extra on debit card is wrong.

Secondly according to Vodafone the charges are passed on by Visa or MasterCard so they pass it on to the customer. But Vodafone don't pass on the charges if you set up your credit or debit card on an ongoing basis. Why is that? The charges are still passed on so why not pass it on in this case?

There is really no difference that DPS charges to Vodafone. I suppose VF have continued to absorb/factor in the associated cash handling costs as an incentive to push people towards automatic payment methods, so more people pay their bills on time. Kinda makes sense in a way to gently encourage that kind of payment method from a business perspective.

Lol of course they wouldn't support a disincentive to use their services. The ideal for Visa/MasterCard/whoever would be if they could charge businesses whatever they want and the business has no choice but to absorb the cost so Visa looks like the winner for convenience without additional cost...
