Like it says in the title,

Payed my Vodafone account online today as per usual and noticed that they are now charging an extra 2% for credit and debit card payments in there portal, not to happy really.

Just for one-off payments isn't it? Recurring credit card payments are exempt I think.

I think telecom do the same? Through phone and internet methods.
Its probably the charges from the payment processing company/credit card company.

I can understand the dairy over the road charging for it, or not taking it at all. But surely the big telcos can absorb the charge for an almost instant payment with no human interaction with your staff (wasting more time which = money.)

Things are tight. It costs them so why shouldn't they pass the costs on? You should pay via the cheapest means possible.

They should reflect this in their pricing. We're already going to start having to pay a separate fee for receiving the bill. Soon we'll have to pay to turn our mobiles on or do a SIM swap.

If you call to pay your bill it will cost you, I think its effective from next month or even now. Only just noticed the surcharge for the mobile billing side.

It is included in the price, if I go into the post office to pay a bill, they get commission on that, if I pay online there is no staff wages to pay, its just penny pinching.

I pay my bill by way of what's convenient to me, I'm the customer, not Vodafone.

Airlines are the worst for this kind of thing.

Pretty soon I will start sending VF etc invoices for my time used whenever they send surveys etc by text message that I have to take time out to read....and for the time spent reading my bill......and demanding a per diem refund if service goes down....

Often card payment fees apply only to credit cards so if you get Visa Debit you can use that and not pay fees.

After watching this thread I checked my account and yes I have been charged a fee too. Now I paid using the app and no such alert came up. Nonetheless from next month I will go to the post office and pay there which means I don't pay any fee but Vodafone pays commission to NZ post which I believe is $7 or so.

The fee is charged by Air NZ, Telecom and others but set up a variable credit card automatic payment and no fee applies.

I agree with some posters that any payment online should be free of any extra charges but when you think of it the credit card is just that, paying on credit so that comes at a cost which is being passed on so I limit my use of the Visa until I need to as it costs me.

Like JohnR says " pay by internet banking" its safer as quick and doesn't cost
