brucehoult: I read the terms. It says:

"Non-residential, commercial purposes will include (but is not limited to) selling bandwidth to third parties or running an Internet Service Provider."

I am providing bandwidth to a 3rd party in another residence, and they are giving me money to do so. Is doing so on a cost share rather than for-profit basis sufficient to make me "not an ISP".

If the other dude starts downloading Miley Cyrus MP3s and getting me copyright infringement notices then you can be pretty damn sure I'll be claiming I *AM* an ISP for the purposes of that legislation!

Not that anyone should download Miley Cyrus full stop you would be liable for an infringement as its your service.

Not to mention an infringement for bad taste in music.

Sorry I couldn't resist. Like whomever you like to listen to and ignore anyone to comments about it :)

Hi all

Great to see all the discussion today! We've chatted to a couple of teams in the business to get a more specific definition about personal/commercial use, and that is:

"Vodafone considers activities like working from home, remotely accessing personal files stored on your home network and other connected remote monitoring uses as personal use and not commercial. As we explain in our terms, non-residential, commercial purposes will include (but is not limited to) selling bandwidth to third parties or running an Internet Service Provider"

Hope that helps clarify things. If you want to know about a specific situation please send me, Demeter or NikT a message here or on Vodafone Community and we'll check it out for you.

Cheers

Dylan

In his defense, he did say 'the other dude'. :)

As an aside: TimA and VodafoneDylan apparently have a wager going on to see if TimA can download 2TB this month. My money's on Tim. :P

I have cancelled Sky this week and will be using Igloo on demand and TiVo/Quickflix so may have to review. Since stopping doing Linux/ Ubuntu support my monthly usage has been low

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

You and me both, my dear. Although I do remember unlimited internet - dial-up style. I'm from a generation where a Sportster Vi 14.4k US Robotics modem was The Future™ and where IRC was the only way I got to talk to anybody ever. UseNet helped me connect with other nerds studying Quenya before anybody else I knew IRL even knew what LotR was.

Life was so much simpler then :)

I remember 15 years ago trying to download a 480mb'ish Linux ISO, running at full speed on a 56k modem I think it took the better part of 48hrs. Of course now using VDSL2 I'd expect the same kind of download to be done in a few mins :)
