Thinking out loud...

I wonder if there is some faulty cable somewhere on the cable network that's connected to WKH.

Bad F connectors, rusty cable, someone running their own cable internally etc could potentially create noise on the network.

The higher QAM that FibreX uses would be more susceptible to noise.  Adding the fact that the Technicolor's probably aren't the most resilient (assumption) could be compounding the issue.

Does anyone know the IP address of the Technicolor?  The old Motorola (back on our old 10/2 connection) used to be 192.168.100.1

Hmmm.

Anything special to make that work?

Can't seem to find it.  I've changed the Huawei DHCP server from 192.168.1.x to the 10 range, but that wouldn't affect it, would it?

Still using the standard Huawei router they provided.

Do you notice anything out of the ordinary/different on the Technicolor when an outage strikes?

Have had all your outages also Sideface, last time I called it in was the night of March 20th, the VF tech told me if the cable TV was still working then it can't possibly be a network outage, as politely as I could, I asked him not to treat me like an idiot.

This response and to have them ask you to unplug the Modem and Router when you have already done that before calling them is the reason I don't like to sit on the phone to them for 45 minutes to let them know.

Every time I have called they say they have had no other calls at that time about outages in Island Bay, as we here know that has to be BS.

Hey folks, so here's some interesting news from a colleague at work who has had ongoing issues with his FibreX connection in Wellington (Brooklyn).

He somehow managed to get on the radar of a relatively high up tech at Voda and through a number of phone calls over the last couple of weeks they determined that the drop outs he was having (half a dozen or more per day) were due to the modem trying to connect with iPv6, failing (because Voda don't offer the service yet) and then disconnecting the connection. Rebooting the modem fixed it for a short time but the connection attempts would inevitably cause drop outs.

The tech disabled iPv6 on his modem and the connection issues went away. This was only resolved in the last couple of days so I am not sure whether this information is widely understood yet but perhaps might solve some issues for others here. It may be that disabling iPv6 is not possible without Voda's intervention (I don't have a technicolour plugged in to try it myself) so this may be irrelevant information.

Island Bay, FibreX 200, node WKH3

First outage for April - from 12:40 to 1:15pm.

As usual, the modem lights stayed on, and a power modem reboot did not help.

WKH was down again from 8:26pm to 8:56 pm tonight.

Upstream speeds were less than 1Mbps prior to outage (OK after).

3 consecutive days - 5 out of the last 7 days - not a good look.  undecided

you seem to have ignored my last few posts but have you tried a different fibre modem?

That's sort of been answered by previous question.

The technicolor is the only DOCSYS 3.1 modem available in NZ at the moment, so there aren't any other Fibre modems to test.

I recieved this e-mail from Vodafone support.

"My tier 2 have reported that they are aware of this issue. here is a fix in the works and our cable engineers are investigating. Our apologies for the poor service in the mean time they are currently doing the best solutions they can. "

I guess it's similar to what everyone else has been getting but hopefully were edging closer to a solution.

Just gotta keep on calling them when there is an outage.

@DG82 i realise that, im meaning have they tried another one of the one they currently have to rule out the device as being faulty

@Jase2985 Oh - right, sorry... embarassed

Though the fact that pretty much all of us on the same node (WKH) experience outages at the same time would likely rule that one out.

Every time @Sideface experiences an outage, my in-laws and my connection also goes down.  I believe MDF is in the same boat also (according to https://smokeping.murfy.nz/)

Gidday,

I had around 40 outages over March with the same MO as other people in this thread. VF tech support have verified they have seen the network drop to my modem and confirmed the issue isn't with my modem or router. Another source stated last week that there's a new version of software going into test this week with a roll out soon after but couldn't confirm if it was to be applied to my node.

Little steps I guess. On the downside, I've not been offered any compensation beyond an apology for the ongoing issues...

I can't brain today. I have the dumb.

My son and my daughter are also on (DOCSIS 3.0) cable in Island Bay.

They have outages too, simultaneous with mine - definitely a network/node problem.

It happens with both DOCSIS 3.0 and DOCSIS 3.1 connections.
