Hmmm.

Do you know if the 50/2 plan (lightspeed) was DOCSYS 3.0?

I know when we had that plan (for 3-4 years until a few weeks ago) we only had outages very infrequently - at least so few that they seemed out of the ordinary - not "It's out again" like it is now.

We had that Technicolor all in one Modem / Router / Access Point unit - I forget the model number.

On a side note, I believe I've now been given a static IP address (or a reservation at least).  How long is the typical lease for - does anyone know? I just want to verify it is actually static.

I just have a dynamic ip and I've seen it stay for a about a week (that's the longest uptime I've had).

Rebooting the technicolor modem seems to change the ip every time, so you could give that a try.

Ummm... I don't know how to do that clever including other people's text in my replies.

If you don't mind me asking - I'm curious as to what modem are you using to connect to FibreX - or are you simply not using FibreX at the moment?

Good idea Djmixerdomo.

I'll give it a go.  Wish me luck!

Okay - well, rebooted technicolor, also released and renewed IP on router and kept my ip.  Must be static.  I hope.

We had an outage in Waikanae, Wellington yesterday starting at 16h45.

It never recovered itself. When I rebooted the modem (not router) just after 6:00pm it recovered straight away.

From the fritzbox logs I saw the following:

Prior to this I have also been seeing multiple dropouts lately. its really annoying, especially when I have work to do from home.

Does anybody know what node Waikanae is on? And can we get it added to these awesome graphs?

I just wasn't at home when I posted that. Nor have I spent any time looking into it since.

Just had a short outage at approximately 15:30 for ~ 5 minutes - but it's back online now.

According to SmokePing it looks like @MDF is still offline (as at 15:46)

We both went offline at the same time.

I wonder if MDF is on a Dynamic IP, or, is on a different node.

I am no longer using the Huawei, but I doubt that's making much of a difference.

Ditto on WKH3 in Island Bay.

Unusual in that the modem rebooted itself at the START of the outage, and the outage lasted "only" 15 minutes - less than the usual 30 mins+.

EDIT   Dynamic IP, using Ubiquiti Lite router.

I'm not sure whether our modem rebooted or not - running a ping to home from work and SmokePing confirmed it was a 5 min outage.

I'm on a node WKH, subnode 4 (I think. It might be 3). I'm on a static IP. I've had exactly the same plague of issues @sideface has been having. After a less than stellar interaction with Vodafone, thoroughly being over the whole affair, and buying a swag of DVDs for when Netflix doesn't have a pipe to go down (mostly when I actually have some time to watch), I've given up nagging Vodafone about it. Doesn't seem worth the effort. 2019 (aka "Liberation Day") is getting closer every day...

Island Bay, "FibreX 200", node WKH3

Another outage, from 6:10pm to 8:06pm tonight.

Unusual in that there was no "orange triangle" on the network logo.
The ER-X router said it was "connected" but had no IP address.
As usual, a modem reboot was slow and had no effect.

VF advised.

I have just noticed this thread. I foolishly changed from WorldXChange to the FiberX option a month or so ago, and the connection has been rubbish.
Not only is the modem gutless by comparison to the Worldxchange one, but we get micro and major drop-outs all the time.

I usually start by looking at the grey technicolor device, it often has all lights solid, but no actual "internet". Rebooting only helps if some of the lights were not on.

Everytime I ring up I am told I am the first to ring, but then they say, oh yes, we can see a problem on the node. "It should reset itself after a while" (I am in Brooklyn).

The major drop-outs tend to be noticed first thing in the morning.
We are not big streamers, downloaders or gamers.

I signed up for a 2 year deal. I just read the small print and it appears they bear no responsibility for connection.

Can anyone tell me if I can break my contract without having to pay break fees?
Can I invoke the consumer gaurantees act?
I'd rather pay another 20$ a month than have this kind of intermittent service.

Cheers
Jeff

I feel your pain.  frown

Your problems are typical of "FibreX".

Modem and connection offer on Cable and FibreX broadband plans

"If you cancel your home phone or broadband prior to the completion of your fixed contract period, an early termination charge will apply.
The early termination charge for a 12 month term is $199, and the early termination charge for a 24 month term is $299."

Good luck with the CGA - I don't fancy your chances.

Ok, it might be time to go social media on them then.
I better ring them again first.
