ramboky: Looking pretty reasonable tonight. Maybe Sideface has finally finished downloading the Harry Potter Collectors Edition Directors Cut with Bonus Features Complete Blu-ray Boxed Set.

Not guilty.

At my current downstream speed that would take several days ... undecided

Then of course there's the new 3D 4k version ... smile

GoogleGeek88: Just another reason to never, ever, recommend Vodafone to anyone, ever. Don't even get me started on that terrible, terrible TV 'service' they call Vodafone TV!

Another totally unhelpful contribution. Sounds like your problems are not consistant with the purpose of this forum. We had some reliability issues a few years ago, and their engineer replaced all that connectors from the power pole to our modem. Did the trick. Even then, TV had kept working.
I'm in Newtown, and am one of the thousands of Vodafone customers on 50/2 and Freeview T-Box with no significant issues with their product. (Peak time speed used to drop to 20/2 (still faster than I can get with ADSL) but that has improved.) Generally customer service is very poor, but even that worked well when I needed to phone them today.

Is anybody else suffering tonight? Started earlier this evening. I was one of the rare was who always showed full speed in the speed tests, even during peak times, but performance was poor. tonight the performance is unusable, I cannot chat in online games and I am skipping around the map. Netflix wont play and websites struggle to load. Is this congestion? It is a Sunday night, and the day before a public holiday. I have rebooted the modem and tried 3rd party and Vodafone Cable DNS

Working ok for me in Johnsonville - speed is not too much below 130/10 and streaming is working fine.

Not the best here in Miramar tonight...

But, in saying that, I've just finished doing some training that included using a web based VM in LA and it hadn't occurred to me that things might be sub-par until I checked my email when I finished and found an alert about posts to this thread.

edit: Duh, I take it all back. I forgot I had something uploading in the background and hadn't figured on it impacting my download speed. Paused it have much better result a few minutes later...

Maybe its not congestion, still poor results at 12.40am. I don't remember a time when Vodafone Internet was working at reasonable quality.

  • UFB fibre up to 200 Mbps between Jul-2017 and Jun-2018. Thats going to be a long year of waiting!

I thought we'd already established your problems weren't congestion related? Either way, have you logged a fault with Vodafone yet?

Vodafone must be doing something right. My latency has - once again - reached an all-time low. :)

I was lucky to see 44 ms during the congestion. Near the start of the month, I dropped to ~41 ms. Now, I'm seeing 38 ms with surprising frequency, and sometimes it even dips as low as 36 ms!

There are still times where it jumps a bit and it's not perfect, but I've been surprised by some of my numbers in the very recent past. I've even witnessed sub-5 ms pings to google.co.nz.

I also still have those same weird YouTube hiccups occasionally, but they seem to be less frequent now.

This is a new issue that looked like congestion, dramatic speed drop at peak times with usual trouble shooting not fixing. I tried to log a ticket, but nobody picked up the phone. Waited 30mins. Because speeds are still shockingly low it would suggest it's not congestion now. No outages in my area. Currently conversing on Facebook with Vodafone.

[EDIT - FIXED.] Unplugging the copper connector from the modem and re-connecting fixed the issue. It was nice and snug to begin with. In my modem stats it showed this - 9 Locked Unknown 104 Unknown   3.7 dBmV 0.0 dB. After the reconnect it showed -  9 Locked QAM256 112 5360537   5.0 dBmV 38.9 dB
I must say, I was impressed with Vodafone support this morning. I decided to call again and they picked up without the phone even ringing once. After the basic troubleshooting and noticing the Channel 9 error he asked me to reconnect the cable. He was NZ based too. If Vodafone managed to keep that level of support (I would say picking up the phone within 5-10mins) and the services provided are consistent I would be happy.

Latency to where?
Your numbers sound like Sydney.

recent typical pings:

Wellington: 8 or 9ms
Auckland: 17 or 18ms
Sydney: 42 or 43ms
Melbourne: 55 or 56ms

After several weeks without congestion problems, my (Island Bay, Wellington) downstream speeds are starting to drop during peak hours, typically to the 60s and 70s.
Latency and upstream speeds are normal.

Here are 3 sequential TrueNet graphs showing hourly averaged speeds for Wellington cable "100/10"...

Late August, with severe web congestion:

Early October - after the upgrade - the honeymoon period:

Late October,  increasing congestion?:

I hope this isn't the beginning of a trend - Vodafone state that their cable traffic is increasing by 30% per month.

We've been struggling to hit 100 Mbps at times on our 130 Mbps plan. Latency has generally been pretty good, but there's definite symptoms of peak-hour congestion again.

30-40ms latency would be the expected latency from Wellington to Google Sydney.
