Hi guys,

We are switching over to Vodafone for our phone and broadband and sky because of the free sky deal/partnership. Now we currently had ADSL but are wanting to upgrade to VDSL(would rather have fibre but it's not avaialble in our area yet), which IS available in our area. So we signed up for it and everything was swell, but then we get told that VDSL will not work. I then had to speak to about ten different people getting the run around from both Vodafone and chorus to try and get any explanation at all as to why it will not work. So now the excuse I have been told from Vodafone is that chorus has advised that if they put us on VDSL there would be too many people on it and our speed and everyone else's speed will be too slow. The speed mentioned was slightly faster than dial up. Now I'm not sure how it all works but if it was simply sharing the total bandwidth available then how could adding one more reduce it by that much?! Makes zero sense to me and seems completely unfair and ridiculous.
No one I have spoken to(including Vodafone reps) have ever heard of this happening so I am wondering if anyone here can shed some more light on it. I really want to do all I can to try and get better internet as currently I cannot do twitch streaming etc which is something I really want to get into. Vodafone have said to take it any further I would have to go to chorus but I fear they will just fob me off. There were chorus workers in our street the other day with the lines pulled up out of manholes, and a neighbour said they had mentioned they were installing fibre but I'm not certain(our area is scheduled for fibre but has no date).

I am located in Palmerston North, in the west end area.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Sean.

Inphinity: Most likely you are simply too far away, and whoever explained it to you doesn't understand.

Chorus rejected with 11.68 attenuation.

BMarquis:
Chorus being anal.

Can you elaborate?
How is defining a minimum service specification 'being anal'?

99% of the time ADSL customers with an attenuation up to 15-16 get VDSL. If a prequal says yes a tech will just do the job and call it a day.
Hopefully this is being tightened up, I have seen myself MANY customers who simply shouldn't have VDSL that got it.
These customers usually get around 20Mbp/s sync and 2-3Mbp/s up. with 26 VDSL attenuation or higher.
