There is a domain I am wanting to get at some stage soon, which is currently registered through "Vodafone New Zealand Limited (Clear)".

The domain will be coming up for renewal in the next few weeks, and if the person doesn't decide to renew, I am wondering how long it will take for Vodafone to release for anyone else to register it? and what the process would be?

Do they have an auction partner, where they auction the domain off after say 30 days of not being renewed? does the domain just get released back into the wild, where it can be registered from any registrar I choose?

How does this all work!

As above, the DNC website has all of the information on this, specifically sections 18-20 of this:

http://dnc.org.nz/content/rmc.html

In your scenario, if the current registrant doesn't renew their domain it's state will change to "Pending Release" which effectively takes the domain offline. It will remain in this state for 90 days unless the registrant renews the domain. After 90 days, if the registrant doesn't renew the domain, then it is released back into the wild where anyone can register it.
