We have an ongoing problem with our Vodafone connection, resulting in really erratic Internet connection speeds.
It turns out we are connected to an exchange in Glenfield, 37Km from our home! (443 phone number as opposed to all our neighbours who are either 420 (Helensville) or 411 (Waimauku)
A very helpful Vodafone techie has confirmed the connection for us, had us run speed tests, pings and so forth to try to build a case to get us connected to the Waimauku exchange, but this seem to have stalled with the latest "just can't do it" response.
There are exchanges in Waimauku, due RBI upgrade this year (7km) and Helensville (overloaded and outdated, but also 7km away)
We have been back to Vodafone many times, over a long period of time, and now we have just had another "can't change you, everyone has to be connected to somewhere" response. (I assume from Chorus?)
Additional info: we "can" get up to 7meg download (I know not flash, but hey we're rural) but typically we get between 200K and 1.2Meg. (In Auckland, seriously!)
House wiring all Cat 6, master splitter, the works. Good up to date router, no wireless in the house, all wired connections.
3G might have been an option, but we have such poor cell reception (Spark or Vodafone/2 deg) it's probably not worth it.
Can anyone offer any suggestions or possible solutions? We're just about pulling our hair out.
Cheers,
Scotty.
