Yesterday [16th]  was the last day of my data cycle and I had a few GB left so I downloaded some stuff I had held off downloading during the month for fear I would go over but I see this morning that my new data cap has had 1.5GB taken off it for data that was actually downloaded yesterday.
All downloading was done and dusted well before midnight but because of the slow meter update some usage was attributed to today and new usage cycle.

Seems a bit unfair.  I can understand a slow catch up on usage but I would at least expect it to be attributed to the correct day and data usage cycle.

So how long before the end of my last day of the cycle do I have to stop downloading in order to have it applied correctly?  I wouldn't want to download a 5-6GB file on the last evening and find out that the usage had all been taken off the new month's cap.

1.5GB isn't huge but it is most of a day's allowance and it is the principle. I paid for that usage last month but you have insisted I take it out of this months cap.

Did your download amount exceed that of your cap? or was it still inside?

Well inside. If I had exceeded it, the DL speed would have just slowed down to 68kbps or whatever it is.

I am close to calling it fraud [albeit unintentional] I paid for 60GB and used most of it within the specified time period, but because of a limitation in Vodafone's usage meter system, they arbitrarily applied usage from one cycle to the next.

The following month I still paid for 60GB but only really get about 58.5GB through no fault of my own.

Update: merging posts
It's not a huge amount which is why I am not even mentioning it to them directly, but for argument's sake if I had 15GB left over on the last day and to took the opportunity to buy and download a large PC or console game, even if I completed the download on the last day of usage, it could roll over because of a delay in updating and I could start my new month 10GB in the hole, not just 1.5GB as in my case.

It's a flaw in the usage monitor that could be short changing a lot of Vodafone customers.

Hi Kiwi,

I would give the guys a call and just ask them about it, they may be able to resolve this over the phone and avoid any further frustration.

I know when I get close to my limit I actually reboot my modem prior to the roll over to ensure I get a new session up and running :)

I don't for a second dispute what you are mentioning as I have experienced it. I'd still raise it if I were you

I may just do any using up of the unused data on the second to last day of the cycle, and leave enough data for the final day so if something does roll over, it won't be much.

Thanks for the tip on resetting the modem. Does that force a data usage update at VF's end?

I don't know if it forces a refresh as such but I believe you get a new Session ID

Bandwidth usage is measured on a per-session basis. This happened because your session started before your rollover date and ended after it. For example, you start the mother of all torrents on Tuesday night, and only finish downloading on Wednesday morning - the session will be counted as usage for Wednesday, since that is when the total session data was calculated.

I'm sorry this happened to you, seems like bad timing. :( I will raise this as an issue with the Powers That Be in the hope that some future flexibility may be forthcoming.

Thanks for the explanation Demeter, however I suspect you haven't read my posts fully. I had no large downloads running overnight into the next day.  All large downloading was done and dusted by 9-10pm on the final day of the data usage cycle, are you saying that this was part of a session that started on one day and ended after midnight and therefore appeared as part of the fiollwing days usage?

So do you also recommend for me to reset my router before midnight on the last day of usage to force a new session?

Oh I see what you mean - apologies, I didn't read properly. I wouldn't have thought it would be necessary to reboot your router to force a new session. I'll PM you for further info, as I am really keen to see what was happening on your connection the night your data reset.
