A colleague lives in a poor Vodafone coverage area. He only gets 1 bar on his phone and most calls end prematurely because of the lack of signal strength.

A New Zealand company is offering to supply him with the zBoost YX520-I, with the promise that this will resolve all the reception issues he is experiencing.

Is there anyone currently using this product or know of this product and can offer my colleague a user experience perspective to help him decide if this is a good solution?

I thought these were illegil in NZ umless sold directly via the carrier? Such as vodafones sure signal?

If the product is illegal and someone knows that for sure, then please advice? As I said earlier the product is being supplied by a legitimate New Zealand company.

Pretty sure it is illegal. The vodafone suresignal is what your colleague needs.

My colleague is well aware of the Vodafone suresignal, but he takes issue that he has to also have Vodafone broadband. He is very happy with his existing ISP and does not want to change.

Vodafone own the management right and plan, build and control what runs on their allocated spectrum. Units like this do cause unwanted interferance when installed and are potenitally very harmful to users of the radio spectrum. Unless Vodafone (or any mobile operator) give you permission to use one of these repeaters, then they are illeage to use.

Hi,
I am the Compliance Officer of Radio Spectrum Management which is the regulatory body for such matters.

You (or you friend) cannot use boosters/repeaters without a licence. Using such equipment without a licence may result in compliance action taken against you which may include a fine or a prosecution.

So to avoid this, you MUST contact the internet provider (in this case Vodafone) and ask them to help with the signal issues and talk to them about obtaining repeaters/boosters from them. They are the only people that can licence such equipment for use in their band.

The reason why use of equipment must be licenced, is to avoid interference to their network.

As above yes these devices are illegal and can cause interference and other issues, Users have been tracked down and prosecuted

Hi, my name is Kacey and I am zBoost representative. To clear things up, zBoost products use patented technology that does not interfere with the carrier network. In fact, it actually cleans (less noise on the frequency) the signal while boosting it. We have sold product through Vodafone dealers in Australia in the past. The product is designed to work when there is signal outside but the signal significantly drops inside. It cannot create a signal.

A legitimate New Zealand company may not be aware that one of its products is not to be sold in this country.

I would notify your friend NOT TO BUY it and contact the company pointing out that this product SHOULD NOT BE IMPORTED AND SOLD IN New Zealand.
