Have now had my PAP2T and TP-Link w8969N router modem for a year now and as fibre runs outside the house was wondering about linking up.

Now World Exchange recommend the Cisco SRP521 as router but have noticed on the Cisco website that it has an end of sale notice for August 2012.
What is going to replace this unit as would like something that works as 1 unit rather than 2 2 separate units I have (and hopefully works from the box and no more SIP ALG problems etc)

Any suggestions for what will replace this unit as want wireless N and a unit that will not be discontinued a few months after purchase.

Also read through Mavericks install and as house extension coming want to know how to setup house so can install fibre link at anytime.
Will the Electrician know what to do?
Should I contact WXC and get info or is there a resource somewhere.

Must say the download and upload speeds posted by Maverick are appealing though till larger data caps come in they are less appealing as could churn througha lot of data quite quickly at those rates.

The first questrion you'll need to ask yourself who you're going to use as your ISP. Since most are supplying hardware for fibre installs the decision isn't one you need to make.

If you are going to opt for your own hardware you'll need to ensure it's compatible with the way your ISP will be offering and provisioning their services.

Yes is brand new UFB as dug into front berm about 2 months ago

I use xnet for VFX fusion - phone and braodband.

What do World Exchange supply - I understood it was only till you got to the router and not including wireless.

I want to have the cable run though roof space to wireless access point and maybe a small switch where more than 1 non-wireless device such as printer and NAS backup device.

Install will be in the garage as that is where conduit accesses house and then they need some power nearby?
Mounted on wall in garage or cut into gib and recessed would be ideal and can get sparkie to run power to nearby but need to know in advance of UFB install what I need to do when house being extended.

as said in post the Cisco is at end of life? SRP 521
What is used in WXC install?

WxC don't yet supply UFB services, so the whole discussion is a moot one right now in some ways. What exists now with BOF fibre installs will be quite different to UFB installs in many ways.

I'm also not aware of the SRP521 being end of life. The original model is, and this was replaced by new hardware around February this year.

All Chorus UFB installs will typically involve the ONT located next to the TV as this is considered the best point.

Is this the one with the green faceplate ? That is the old model, the new one has a black faceplate and hasn't been discontinued as far as I know.

Checked PB Tech and all they have are the green faceplate model

What do WXC use in their install and if SRP521 an option where to get and is this better than the Linksys WRP400?

So if WXC don't do UFB then what sort of fibre have I got outside the house?

If it's not UFB, it'll either be P2P which is more expensive and you can only sign up with XNet or backhaul fibre you won't be tap into it.

As knew no better I assumed that the fibre that WxC had on their site was UFB and that it was all the same.

Does this mean to get UFB I have to change to Orcon to get phone and fast internet?

I would have thought that since WxC was at the forefront of fibre voip that it would have been offering it.

OK maybe this will have to go on the back burner and I shall save money to pay for the data used by my teenagers when we finally go fiber

There's a few ISPs offering UFB services atm. There's Orcon, SNAP, Worldnet and a few others.
