Hi all,

I noticed on your hardware page that the Cisco SPA112 has a comment that it is not recommended for faxing. I thought that the spa112 had support for fax machines. From ciscos site

  • Fax tone detection pass-through
  • Fax pass-through using G.711
  • Real-time fax over IP using T.38 fax relay (T.38 support is dependent on fax machine and network and transport resilience)

Is this a temporary firmware issue, a real issue or just incorrect information on the supported hardware page?

IMHO the SPA112 and SPA122 are both poor quality replacements for the SPA2102. They both had horribly buggy firmware when they launched with many features not working correctly.

Recent firmware updates have fixed most of the things that were broken or simply didn't work, but many people are still reporting T.38 issues with these units. The Cisco forums have a number of threads discussing these issues.

Yes, I agree that they did have very poor firmware when they were released, more Linksys than Cisco:-)

I wouldn't have expected too much difference in the performance of the SPA112 and the SPA122 for faxing, but, only the SPA122 is recommended for faxing. It's like the support for faxing is based on the previous generations feature levels rather than the current ones. Of course I could be wrong and the fax support has been sorted on the SPA122 but not the SPA112.

I haven't personally tried T.38 faxing recently with the latest firmware updates. I still have a number of 2102's sitting here so will continue using them because they work so well!

Has there been IPv6 capable firmware released for the 2102?
