Just realised that I am now out of my first 12 month contract with VF and was thinking about changing to a naked BB service as it has the higher data cap and if I stay with VF, it is even cheaper if I have an on account calling plan, which I don't mind doing.

Trying to work out if they will let me have the $65 100GB naked plan combined with with the $40 on account sim-only plan as I already have an unlocked S3.  Anyone done that combination, is it doable or are there plan exclusions that I am missing?

Currently I pay $90 for 80GB with phone line and $20 a month on my mobile with 2 Degrees for 600MB, 30 NZ mins & 300 texts [$110 total]

If I can do what I suggested above then I can pay $105 a month for 100GB BB and mobile 200 NZ mins, 1 best mate, 500MB data, data angel etc. So apart from the reduction in data and losing a phone that I never use, it sounds like a great deal.



Quick question regarding naked BB, do I have to have an active phone account with a telco or just the phone line infrastructure?

Other than that, I am happy to look at other naked BB options for a higher cap for less money but i have been more than happy with Vodafone.

I believe any mobile phone plan is eligible, even a no term. Note that there's a 200GB option for only another $10/m.

Thanks, I think I would be hard pressed to get through 100, if I find I do, I assume I can change my plan at some point.

We've had naked BB with Vodafone for a couple of years, and I've always just had the cheapest ~$40 plan on account mobile.  I've got the family add on for the few people I used to call on the landline (mum&dad).

You just need the physical wiring but it might pay to keep a record of your old landline number as sometimes they use it to refer to your line (i think i needed it when I changed from orcon to VF).

We found naked & mobile to be a really good deal - we never used the landline and people are a lot more accepting of just mobile numbers these days. I don't think you'll miss it :)

I have a question for a Vodafone employee.  I have an ex VF number starting 0211 which I ported to 2 Degrees back in 2008, would I be able to port it back to VF for the $40 Sim only deal?

I have the same exact setup as your suggestion above. But because I'm on the red zone, I'm paying only $55 instead of $65. I use the extra $10 to pay 2talk.

All in all, I'm paying $105 for:
1. BB naked:
100GB + 100GB (free double data for 12 months)

2. Mobile:
500MB + 1GB (free for 12 months)
200 mins
5000 txt
NZ bestmate

3. Landline:
2Talk voip

No need for active phone account.

That sounds great, I am in Wellington central and on my bill the product I am on is called Ultimate Red, so presumably I could get a similar deal unless yours was a specific limited promotion? 

On your bill, what is your VF plan called?

Yep - can absolutely port 021 numbers on another network back to Vodafone.

Let me know how it goes.
I tried asking for double the data for life for additional $10/month but they wouldn't agree so they gave it to me free for 12months instead.

I got some part of that deal. Couldn't get the bonus 100GB data as that was a promotional deal that was apparently finished.

They no longer discount the red zone as they thought it fairer to make the pricing uniformly cheaper.

I ended up with
100GB data Naked BB
200 Minutes NZ.
500MB + 1GB bonus data
5000 texts [Way too many in my opinion]

Have you considered naked TC cable? It's what I have, plus Xnet VoIP. Data caps probably aren't as good though.

Having had TC before, I am in no hurry to go back.

I have had my plan changed over now anyway.  I currently have 27GB to use by the end of my billing cycle...which is tomorrow.
