From doing a bit of a google search it appears that Sommet Sport won't be available on cable - is that correct?

If so it doesn't seem quite right that stuff would only be available on Freeview platform directly and not others given the fact the "go digitial" campaign says you should have either Freeview or Sky or Cable etc.

Sommet sport is a hybrid interactive channel that requires MHEG5 so won't be available on Sky or cable.

Not all Freeview channels are available on Sky or cable as it's a completely different platform.

Oh well... guess I'll need to look for an additional device.

I've got a PC with a DVB-T tuner (which supposedly lets me pick up Freeview although I've never tried it). Is that likely to pick up Sommet Sport or is MHEG5 something that only a branded Freeview box would have?

Nope only MHEG5 certified devices will be able to use the interactive functions. Open Source PC TV applications have not cracked the requirements for interactive services yet.

Nope, it can't do MHEG5 EPG anyway, let alone the applications.

Sommet haven't yet released details of exactly what MHEG5 is required for. We know that the current test service is fine and can be displayed on all devices. Until such time as an official channel launch no one will know. :)

The requirement to carry the channel is MHEG5 so you won't see it anytime soon on anything other than official Freeview certified equipment.

So at the moment, yes you can see the channel but as soon as it goes in to interactive mode you'll only get the first stream and none of the extras that the certified units will be able to see... Unless someone (mm from MediaPortal :-) ) can implement this in to hte open source engines...

Anyone know if the PlayTV for PS3 still exists as that's supposedly Freeview certified right? The only mention I could seem to find of them online was the Sony website and it was "out of stock".

This is the thing that most are missing...it's not showing up when searching the EPG or when "surfing" channels.

Manually entering 114 on the reomte is the only way there at the moment.
