I'm happy with Vodafone's cable broadband service so far and the d/u speed is great (120Mbps/10Mbps) but why couldn't Vodafone have issued a modem with an off/standby button?

I could switch it off from the mains when not in use or pull out the plug from the back of the modem but I think that might generate nasty voltage spikes.  This thing gives off warmth and I'm wondering how much it will add to my power bill?

Tony.

I leave my modem, two routers, three switches, one home server all up 24/7. If i were to turn off these things it would take forever just to reboot the whole house ;)

Hi,

Electrical components like those wouldnt have a very large impact on your power bill. I would recommend leaving them on as they are designed to be on 24/7. I leave my Modem and 3 wireless AP's and 1 server on 24/7 and it costs me $5 max of power a month. (Auckland)

Cheers

In that case I'll just continue to leave it on 24/7.

freitasm;
*Three* data switches? Is there anything in your house you haven't networked?

Maybe he hasn't got the Cisco/Russel Hobbs "iToaster". Time your toast so it pops up as you get up or get home. Running late - use the iToaster app (iOS and Android*) to change the time or the burntness. Add the wireless addon to remove unsightly cords** for only $99.95. Get yours today!!!

*Some features may not be available on android systems.
**This does not include the power cord. Replacement cords with the special proprietary iToaster connectors are available from the website. Please allow 2-6 moths for delivery.

You don't choose a book by its cover but it does determine which ones you read.

Do the moths get in there because the delivery is so slow?
