Just wondered if with the new Chorus plans being released to wholesale for 2014 will they be available via WXC.

I am on 30/10 fibre but for extra $10 would be great to move to 100/20 or 100/50 - or maybe change 30/10 to released 50/20 for same price :-)

Chorus, which is the Government's partner for 70 per cent of the ultra-fast broadband (UFB) scheme, today proposed a range of new fibre products and hopes to make them available by the start of next year.

New plans

50/20 - $37.50 increasing to $42.50 by 2019
100/20 - $40 increasing to $45 by 2019
100/50 - $45 increasing to $49.90 by 2019

current plans

30/10 - $37.50 increasing to $42.50 by 2019
100/50 -$55 decreasing to $49.90 by 2019

I guess it will take a while to get a decision but I'd be keen.....

Why do you expect you'd be able to get a 100Mbps plan for only $10 more?

Just because the wholesale cost of the product is only $10 more doesn't mean that the costs to the ISP are only $10 more. Almost immediately you've got significant changes to per user dimensioning, backhaul and core network requirements.

I did the maths and most of the ISP's that provide both 30/10 and 100/50 UFB fibre charge about $30 more for the 100/50 over the 30/10.
Since Chorus wholesale is $55 minus $37.50 = $17.50  for difference between current costs wholesale I thought that maybe a subtle increase to 50/20 might only cost $10 per month. I can be hopeful can't I :-)

I guess unless the changes in price to go faster (which I thought was the point with UFB) are attractive then we are all still going to be on ADSL for a while as too big a jump to get fast (not to mention data usage - I have 3 teenagers and 1 younger and manage to use nearly my 60gb data cap with their usage and also some programs watched on Netflix). Realistically if you start to watch movies and TV over internet you'd probably need 100 to 200 gb per month but too expensive at present.

The usage in NZ will go up as people find the new things to watch over the internet. e.g. on demand TV (NZ and overseas), games etc

Isn't the 30/10 changing to 50/20 for all ISPs - with the 30/10 plan no longer being available? That's how I interpreted the article.
