My brother recently went away for basic training, so we got him a Topup to call us when he gets to use his phone.
We called 777 as it was printed on the Topup voucher from my mums work issued phone (An Auckland DHB).
Immediately it rang and someone picked up and I thought "damn that was quick" then she said "what your emergency?" And I thought maybe it was faults dept. or something so I said I wanted to Topup a phone. She said "no call Vodafone on 888" and I hung up.
So I checked the call log on her iPhone and it read customer service, so I opened the contact and the only number was 777, which we manually dialled.
So I thought maybe there was a hickup somewhere and tried again on 777 as I had never heard of 888 before.
Same exact thing.
So I called the 0800 after finding the landline phone and spoke to someone about the Topup a well as the 777 issue. She said that since it was calle from a biz phone it won't recognise 777 as a valid number and automatically redirects to 111. Does this sound right? I don't understand how that can be at all sensible, we didn't even get a warning, it just rang and connected. I felt so bad for wasting their time.
I tweeted Vodafone and DMd them but got no reply. Just wanted to know if any of you have had this since I imagine there are quite a few voda biz customers here.
Also, can we get in trouble for that? I was shaking after haha. Didn't want to get us in trouble, especially since it happened twice.
Cheers,
Sam.
