How do ex-TelstraClear customers on the cable network go about changing to a Vodafone plan? I'm interested in changing from the LightSpeed 40GB plan (ex-TelstraClear) to the newly announced Naked Cable Unlimited plan.

There's a "buy now" button on the plan page, however I'm reticent about using it, since as far as I understand the billing/account management for ex-TelstraClear customers is separate to that of Vodafone customers, and I'm concerned that I might create a new Vodafone account rather than modifying my existing account, and I'd like to avoid any account or billing related drama that might cause.

 

Apologies if this has been dealt with previously, I did search, but the most relevant thread related to xDSL and I believe this has some impact on the process.

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

 


 

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- If you are rural or urban

 


 

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

 


 

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

 



 

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Others may correct me, but as far as I am aware, you go onto the equivalent cable plan - these are under a different menu.

Don't forget the two checkboxes underneath, - upgrade your speed and $30 off.

I also find it better to call a CSR as they will be able to review what you have and work out an ideal package for you.  For example, if you are on account or in contract still.

I switched from TC to VF cable - whilst on contract - in 2 days with no problems - and a hugely increased data cap smile

I just gave them a call to go from 150GB to Unlimited. Got through pretty quickly and managed to avoid having to sign up for a new 12 month contract. No complaints here. One thing to note is that they said it may take up to 10 working to days for the change to take affect. Keep an eye on your usage meter :)

Job Done

Rang the number on the bottom of the page for the plans. Initially got the wrong team, but was quickly transferred and on hold for less than ten minutes. :) Explained that I was ex-TelstraClear and looking to upgrade without having an existing On Account plan of any kind.

Request for modem upgrade filed with the right people and I should have a new install in 7 - 10 days.

I'm now on a 12 month contract, which I'm OK with as I wasn't planning a change in this timeframe anyway.

I was pleasantly surprised how quick and easy that was. Hopefully the install goes just as well. I was expecting the worst given the experience I had with Mobile Broadband and what I believe was the first generation Vodem device (Hauwei E220) several years ago, but was presently surprised

We see a lot of threads complaining (often justifiably) about poor service from ISPs, so I thought I'd document my experience, which has been decent thus far. I'll update this thread again after the install to share my install experience (if noteworthy) and my observations about the performance of the upgraded connection and new modem.

Does anyone happen to know the model of the new modem Vodafone are using?

Indeed it is, all the way back to 2008 when $59.95 a month on a 24 month term bought you a data connection (GRPS or UMTS if you were in the right place) and a 1GB cap at 50c/MB overage charge. It was as a result of this the meaning of the term "bill shock"  became very clear to me when I went over my cap by ~1GB and recieved a bill for ~$570, which caused a considerable change in the complexion of 19-year-old me.  Paid in full and exited my contract early for fear of that ever happening again.

It's a very different market now.

Hey, I just upgraded from Lightwave 60 to the new Ultra Fast Naked Broadband - Cable 80G plan which is now faster (50Mbps). However I'm not entirely sure if I need to reboot the Motorola SURFboard for the new speed changes to take effect when the next billing cycle rolls around? 

Also looking at the technical specifications the maximum download speed is up to 38Mbps. I'm I suppose to be getting a new cable broadband gateway device?

 I responded to your post in the unlimited thread as well - the Motorola SurfBoard SB5101 is not capable of the 50Mbps speeds, you'll need to have your modem swapped out for the DOCSIS3.0 Cisco DPC3008 cable modem. Did the sales rep not book this in with you when you switched plans?

No, the CSR did not mentioned it. I only realised it this morning and my billing cycle rolls over tomorrow.  I'm on hold to VF now 25 minutes and counting. I'll flick you a PM in about 5 mins if I don't get through.

I got through to VF after 30mins and the CSR agent was unable to access my account details because it's on the "old system". Getting a called back on my mobile in the next hour.
