Well, I haven't even had VFX connected for a day yet, and this is the second thread I've started...

It was around 9:05-9:10pm tonight. My parents rang from New Plymouth. I rang them back to demonstrate it to them...
All was working fine until a few minutes into the call, when the line just went silent, dead. I went and found that the phone light on my router was not lit. 30seconds later, the light came back on, and we seemed in business again. So I called again..
Again, the call went through fine, but a few minutes later the phone/line went dead again!! Not a good look when one is demonstrating a new system to one's parents!!!
Again, the line came right after about 30 sec.

Is this a usual occurance?
Can anyone tell me what might have gone wrong?

Thanks

PS: I talked to my grandparents (who are also in NP and on the same exchange as my parents) earlier this afternoon without any problems whatsoever.

30 seconds sounds like your modem disconnected rather than VFX, but just guessing.  Did you look at the modem DSL light as well?  It is anyway more likely the modem/line than the VFX.  If you log into the modem config screen look in the even log to see if you are getting frequent disconnections, or on some modems it will show you a "line up" count which is the number of times the modem initiated a connection (i.e. after it got disconnected).  But I'm sure WxC will pick up this thread and trace their logs soon.  If your ADSL is also with WxC then they will debug your line disconnections as well, your ISP can see the log from the exchange.

Niel is 100% correct , I have taken a look at the calls made at 21:03 and the again at 21:05, both times messaging did not get back to your device / IP, a check of your DSL connection shows it offline at both of those times, so the issue was the DSL connection offline  not VFX itself.

No it is not a usual occurrance if your DSL is online your VFX will be online

I will pass this on to our support team to take a look at your DSL connection, I notice however that you Interleaving off whilst this reduces latency it also may cause issues as no error correction is built in so if the connection is having a few issues this may also compound any problems

It appears the modulation type on the WAG was set to Multimode instead of g.dmt , may be the issue here so we  will see how you go with that, the rest of the stats on your connection look okay even with INterleaving off so we will start from this point.

I'm afraid that the Multimode setting theory was just blasted into little unrecognizable pieces... :(

It decided to cut out on me again. I wasn't even on VFX this time round.

I know what to look out for now though. If AIM (AOL Instant  Messenger for the uninitiated) complains that I am logged into more than one location, I now know that my DSL has had a little outage.

<this is bad, my IM client (pidgin) can't connect to the networks, I'm having buffering issues with an internet radio, and I'm downloading something from MS at a whole 70KB/s (using a D/L manager at that!!>

I have already had the request for interleaving turned on put through. Will go from there.

If they are upgrading your exchange to ADSL2+, then give it a few weeks until they commission the upgrade and tweak settings.  If they are not upgrading the exchange, suspect your modem to be failing.

Unfortunately, Palmerston North isn't important enough to get ADSL2+ in the near future :(

I'm not sure if it IS the modem, as I have been having other issues with my DSL that may or may not be related..
