I read somewhere over the last week that Vodafone is introducing a teleconference service, and that all you pay is the cost of the call to the 021 number to use it.

Does anyone have more info on this? I'm particualrly interested in whether you can use this at no cost during the weekend if you have free Vodafone to Vodafone calling.

Yes, it's true. You only pay for the calls to the conference facility, not for the setting up/maintenance of the service as well...

We'll give you an 021 number to ring, you set up a room and get a secure access number and an email template so you can send it to the invitees (up to 20 pax per call) and you can talk for up to five hours.

Details online shortly - I'll send Mauricio the press release and he can put it up if he sees fit.

Right now, the Rabbit Ranch Pinot is calling, oh it's calling.

Mostly it's saying "what's up doc?" but I think that counts.

Thanks Paul, it's great that you're taking the time to be here to answer these. So will this number work for free Vodafone calls in the weekend and/or Best mate?

Also, if you could get your web guys to put up an RSS feed for all the media releases and other announcements of cool new things from Vodafone, it would make it much easier to keep up with all that's new.

Perhaps, except that my normal rate for a call to a Vodafone mobile during the weekend is 0, since I am on the new megga talker plan.

I guess the way to resolve this once and for all is to have a short conference and watch to see what comes up on My Vodafone.

Signed up test, Got an easy room number too. I'm on Anytime-200 MEGA so I can make a limited number of cheap calls anytime.

on our business tolls package that can be as low as 15c/minute... that's pretty good for an audio conference facility.

On Telecom flexi mytime it gets even cheaper at 10c per minute. That is, if they allow mobiles from other networks (which I assume they do).

charge for the use of the service as well as the phone call to the service. With Vodafone's service, you just pay for the calls.

My comment to Mauricio was just about his point that calls to 021 numbers are "expensive" and they don't have to be.

Additionally it comes with other features like recordings, operator assistance, international free to call numbers (as well as an regular international access number), preset audio conference (automatic joining based off caller ID), Reservationless Conferencing, Question and answer managed service and a few other useful features (I use it quite a few days a week).

Though this thread is not a comparison thread, in saying that, its good to get this out of the way.

Oh, absolutely... that's what I'm saying - different beasts for different users. The v.conf facility can be used by families or small groups on an ad hoc basis or regularly if you want. But if you want recordings, video conference facilities and the rest, that's a different tool entirely.
