I am waiting to switch from Telecom prepaid to Vodafone prepaid. I was in a Vodafone store last week - they had no idea, and could only speculate that they might allow porting to prepay in November/December when current promotions end.
I thought it was a legal requirement as part of the number portability legislation that Vodafone have this capability in place by now? The cynic in me would theorise that they are deliberately holding off porting people to prepay in order to get as many people as possible on account...
I'd also be very interested to hear of any update on this situation.
Theres been a number of discussions around this. They always end up in the same light with someone suggesting that you port to telecom, then port to Vodafone.
It would be nice to get a final 'YES' or 'NO' on this one, because even a lot of Vodafone staff seem a bit confused about it.
Heres a recent thread discussing it that suggests if you try it, you'd be doing it at your own risk, and its not advised because most people agree that its not possible.
Well I thought I would call VF and see what response I got...
I was told I cannot move my on account # to pre pay, the reason being it is a 6 digit number. I then asked if I moved it to TCNZ prepaid and back if that would be possible, the answer was still no. She explained that all numbers transfered from TCNZ to date were to VF on account.
She did say it could well be possible in the future.
I do wonder why the issue is about the number of digits as she did say if a TCNZ number was 7 digits it could be possible [in theory] to move it to VF pre pay
It is temping to just cancel my on account and start using pre pay...
To be honest I wouldnt be surprised if that was an assumption from the CSR .. There would be a more technical reason to it than the digits relating to the phone number.
John R may be able to provide some assistance? He's usually quite good like that.
I'll have a hunt around and see if I can find anything, but don't hold your breath waiting for me.
