Anyone wiser than me got a clue about this?

Firstly I'm on Linux and have 5 years linux experience, so I don't beleive this is a "newby" problem.

Here's my problem.

"Can't get to Bebo"

CAN get to google.com, cnn, bbc etc.

Can't connect through firefox or wget.

i.e. wget bebo.com
waiting..connected... waiting for reponse... error no response (timeout)....

Tried using ubuntu dapper feisty and gutsy.

Only happens on Telstra DSL, Xtra is A.O.K fine, same computer.

Tried adjusting MTU from 1500 to 1492. 1400, 1200, 1000, 600. No help.

Tried latest firmware and also a different brand of ADSL modem, no change.

Not a DNS issue, DNS resolves just fine, and I get connected to bebo, the response from bebo just does not get back.

I'm not running any firewalls, this is out-of-the-box Ubuntu, nothing complex.

Happens at two different client sites using Telstra as the ISP.

No problem at clients using Xtra, Orcon, etc. Seems to be telstra only.

I can ping bebo just fine, and response times are good.

There is also some evidence of facebook and hotmail having issues as well, but I can't replicate those.

Bebo is 100% replicatable.

If I leave firefox connecting to bebo for long enough, I sometimes get the text of the site,
but no graphics / flash. (as though images are turned off in firefox).

Firefox connects to bebo.com and stalls at waiting for "s.bebo.com"

I'm stumped, can anyone tell me how I might diagnose this further. Or try bebo on their own ubuntu / telstra connection.

Thanks a bunch!
Mac

Hi,
I ran into a whole bunch of networking issues after upgrading to 7.10 one of which sounds similar to yours.  This link might help.

Cheers

Maximus,

Thanks for the link, we already disabled IPv6, so we know thats not involved in our problem.

We also tried opendns and telstras own DNS servers, just to rule DNS out, however as I said in the first email DNS is resolving fine, we are connecting, just not getting any http traffic back...... and browsing to 99% of the rest of the web works perfectly ALL the time, no glitches.

We also tried a windows XP machine on the same router, it can get to Bebo just fine 100% of the time, and the linux machine CAN NOT ! WEIRD !

Cheers
Mac
