I contacted Vodafone NG about their fibre speeds for my location in Auckland because both Spark and 2 degrees are offering me quite fast plans, some with an optional extra cost.  Yet Vodafone next generation is only offering 30/10, which is actually slower than my existing VDSL connection.

I'm curious as to why Vodafone are not offering much the same speeds as other people.  I know nothing about this sort of comms, but I would have thought they were all using the same bit of fibre, so is this more of a marketing/sales issue than a technical one?

Marketing. It has been discussed a few times on here. My suggestion is to change providers if you've got UFB available.

I'd say their focus is really on government, corporate and business these days rather than residential. That's what Vodafone purchased them for.

Thanks all - it was a weird conversation with sales when I asked why?

Shame really as I've been a customer for many years and I've been impressed with the general level of support and features.  Now if someone were to give me a hint that this might be changing in a few months, I'd certainly consider hanging on.  And I promise I wouldn't tell anyone else, honest!

I've just got the ball rolling to leave VNG and join Spark.  I really felt they didn't care what plans they were offering after I spoke to two different call agents.  Maybe they are winding down the residential side of the business.  Spark said they had spoken to a number of VNG customers recently..they had not heard of VNG until recently.

Just to add to my confusion on this, I got a call on Thursday from another part of Vodafone,  Vodafone Fibre, after a flyer came through the door also offering higher speeds.

The offer looked OK, perhaps pricey, but at least the options where there.  When I asked about what was happening to existing WorldXChange customers, they knew about the purchase just fine, but said.  "No, with us you'd become a proper vodafone customer with a new account and so on".  I did ask them to see if I could talk to someone about what is the transition plan for existing "ex" worldxchange customers, but no sign of that yet.

Perhaps we are the forgotten few.

I'd love to but they want a $299 early termintion fee if I leave before Dec. If I upgrade to fibre in the meantime they will add another year to my contract.

Don't quite understand why my obligation to them remains the same - while they can change things like sending me to the regular Vodafone call centre - with thier usual 20min wait - and adding a new $10 late payment fee?

Have they merged the WXC call centre into Vodafone now? At the time, WXC were still going to operate stand alone.

You call a Vodafone number -  it sounds like Vodafone - I had to wait at least 20 min - never waited at all for WXC - it's Vodafone as far as I can tell

Hold up. Is this the start of Vodafone breaking (yet another) company? Didn't see that coming.

I've dropped our landline when we moved to Spark, so the $260 early termination was slightly offset with the reduce monthly fee (over 2 years!).

Also with faster faster fibre vs what WXC/VNG cant even try and offer...

Yep, Helpdesk seems to be a Vodafone number now...what is published and what they ask you to call are two different numbers.

Funny, when I briefly mentioned to WXC I was leaving a few weeks back, my 'account control panel' showed the provision request for the upgrade from copper to fibre.  When I hit refresh, the requests disappeared, 1 by 1. So they canx everything with asking or telling me, and I hadn't at that stage cancelled anything.

When I moved to Spark, WXC canx all my lines, voice and data when it should have been just voice to start with.

WXC don't care now about residential customers or they are trying to close that business down by cheesing them off.

So I called NowNZ and they said it was about 4 to 6 weeks to get fibre connected.

If my contract with WXC is up in say Dec 1 - can I start the ball rolling with Now about 6 weeks before that - and then drop WXC when the fibre is ready to go - or will they  cancel me as soon as they discover I'm going with fibre with another provider (Im currently on vdsl)

See: Switching to Fibre from Cable

This is an excellent guide to escaping from Vodafone.

"From reading http://pages.bigpipe.co.nz/how-to-switch-isps-without-ruining-everything, it seems that the best way of doing things is to sign-up for Fibre, wait until the day that fibre is actually installed and operational, and then ring Vodafone to cancel."

The Early Termination Fee for Vodafone VDSL is listed as $199 on their website, not $299.

Thanks that's a very useful guide - I would have given notice for sure and stuffed it up.

When I signed up with WXC the early termination fee was $299  with a 24 month term (I'm about 18 months in) - now its still $299 but 12 months https://www.wxc.co.nz/residential/fusion/

Just to jump into this thread, I know its over a month old,

I'm with WXC too, and feeling mightily cheesed off.

There service has been stable, but I feel there are better deals out there in the market that offer more for less.  I'm on their standard 30mb package that on a 24 month term, also up in Dec 16.

I'd even gone so far as identifying the provider id like to switch to, and the plan I was going to go for, when I approached "VodaXC" about leaving I was told about the 299 early termination fee and 24 month contract.  In my mind, Dec cant come fast enough and ill be shot of them as quick as possible.

Other providers offer much better speeds, and id like to get as far away from Vodafone (and Sky for that matter) as I can...

Come on WXC press the "speed upgrade" button.....and I want Naked Broadband which VodaXC don't actually provide any more....useless....!

I don't want no sugar in it - thank you very much
