For the last 7 days, my Vodafone broadband has been extra slow on loading many web sites using a direct cable to the modem. For example, it takes 45 seconds to load the NZ Herald site, 65 seconds to load some other NZ-based sites, and 85 seconds to load a UK site. However, some other sites, such as Stuff, Google and YouTube load much faster than this.

I tested the Vodafone broadband speed using the Vodafone speed test and with a direct cable from laptop to modem I am getting 46Mbps download and 2Mbps upload. My plan is for 50Mbps download and 2Mbps upload. I tried using both Internet Explorer and Google Chrome and the results were the same from both. The "ping" was measured at 26ms and "jitter" 3ms on Ookla.

I then disconnected the Vodafone broadband and attached my Spark mobile data T-Stick to my laptop. Even though the download speed of the T-Stick is much lower than my Vodafone broadband, all the websites referred to above downloaded within 2 or 3 seconds, which shows that this speed problem with my Vodafone broadband is probably nothing to do with my laptop settings etc.

Can anyone suggest what might be going on to cause this recent speed reduction in downloading many web sites and give me a recommendation on how the problem may be rectified?

Thanks very much for your help.

Regards

Fred

Either this ongoing problem or this other problem...

Have you contacted Vodafone and logged a case? They need to know things are happening.

Thanks for your prompt reply. No, I haven't yet logged a case but I probably will shortly if other people haven't experienced this particular problem and if only Vodafone can sort it out. This all started happening during the last 7 days or so, but prior to that I had no complaints except during peak times when sites such as YouTube were running very slowly.

It's quite strange that this excessive download time doesn't happen with all web sites that I visit. The same happens if I use Vodafone wifi with my mobile phone, but with mobile Skinny data on the same mobile phone everything is much faster!
