I am just looking at DSE's site and find the Linksys PAP2T is hardly available. Rumour it is even discontinued.

What's the replacement for it? How could the entry level be discontinued, do Linksys think people have to settle for more expensive things?

It doesn't sound right. Or is it the case of "oh, now this is selling like hot cakes, let's push the more expensive ones?"

DSE is even listed as a retail partner, but it looks like it's making it harder for people to get those...

I can certainly order from Ascent. But John Doe on the streets is more likely to walk to DSE than to visit Ascent online.

Certainly not discontinued, just extremely backlogged at the moment I think. Two of the main distributors of them are severely backordered, so naturally that would have an impact on the retailers too.

1 distributor shows negative stock for the VFX configured model, low postive qauntities for the unconfigured model, but they ar $15 more expensivce

Did you notice that the WAG54GP2v2 is even less in stock than the PAP2T and I remember reading in one thread that 1 DSE store didnt even know what VFX was until someone showed them.

Yes certainly. You just have to enter the Profile Rule from the e-mail that WxC will send you when your account is setup.

Thanks. The problem is they already have the router/wireless AP so this would be overkill. The fax number doesn't need to be ported and they are running a line for fax/alarm/DSL anyway. So the PAP2T would be ideal.

I will order one from Ascent.

I got the last one at my local DSE and they had to get it from outback and put it in the empty box on the shelf. Just waiting for the service to come on line now. But you are right there is deffinately a shortage out there.

The PAP2T is a cheap model. The SPA2102 has better CODECs and is only about $15 more. The SPA2102 is not a router, you connect it in series with the rest of your network so you get proper QoS. The PAP2T is not connected in series with your network, but rather into a router and requires that you configure your router to manage the QoS or you can have serious quality issues.

You can never have enough Volvos!

Ok, ordered the PAP2T from Ascent, should be here tomorrow, when I will then ask for porting the TNZ number over to VFX.

So it really seems these things are selling like hot cakes.

The next problem: WxC quoted ten days to connect the broadband service.

New Zealanders must be running to broadband! Seriously, ten days?

Usually it's more like 3 working days, sometimes even faster. WxC seem to have a policy of quoting the worst case. If it turns out faster, the customer is happy.

Much better than the other way around, I'm sure you will agree.

I am taking the Top Global wireless/cellular data router anyway, in case they don't get broadband in the next few days. They can still be connected via Telecom's CDMA network.

I was quoted 8 - 10 days for connection to VFX as well. Mind you I was quoted 5 - 10 bnusiness days when I joined xnet and it was done in the next day.
